HEINEKEN Malaysia is expanding its Star Academy programme across the country in 2026, bringing hands-on draught training directly to more than 600 partner outlets, including those in smaller cities and outlying areas.

The programme aims to train around 2,500 bartenders nationwide, giving F&B professionals greater access to practical training without having to travel to major cities.

According to HEINEKEN Malaysia Sales Director Jimmy Ding, the new outlet-based approach allows trainers to work directly with bartenders in their everyday environment, helping them improve their skills, confidence and consistency while supporting better outlet performance.

Two Key Training Programmes

Star Academy 2026 will focus on two main programmes.

HMB National Training 2026 provides bartenders with practical training in draught quality, pouring techniques and service fundamentals.

Meanwhile, Guinness Perfect Pour focuses on mastering the iconic two-part Guinness pour and ensuring consistent serving quality.

Together, the programmes are expected to reach close to 600 outlets nationwide. Guinness Perfect Pour alone has already engaged more than 400 outlets and trained around 1,700 bartenders.

Raising the Standard of Draught Service

HEINEKEN Malaysia says delivering quality draught beer involves more than simply pouring a drink. Factors including temperature, storage, freshness, glassware and pouring technique can all influence the final taste, aroma and presentation.

Star Academy aims to equip bartenders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to consistently deliver better draught experiences while encouraging greater pride in their craft.

The programme also continues to create opportunities for experienced bartenders to share their knowledge with others. Cora Jean Cantwell of Langkah Syabas Beach Resort, Sabah, became Star Academy’s first female National Champion in 2025 and has since helped mentor other bartenders.

With more than 12,000 bartenders trained to date, Star Academy remains part of HEINEKEN Malaysia’s wider effort to strengthen skills and capabilities across the country’s F&B and hospitality sector.

The company says Malaysia’s beer industry contributes around RM7.1 billion annually, including RM3.3 billion in tax revenue, while supporting more than 52,000 jobs, according to the latest Economic Impact Assessment.
