Nothing Unveils Ear (3a) With Audio Snapshot, Hi-Res Sound and Smarter AI Features

Nothing has officially announced the Nothing Ear (3a), the latest addition to its popular (a) series of true wireless earbuds. The new model introduces a host of AI-powered features, improved audio performance, and a refreshed design aimed at users who want more than just music playback from their earbuds.

A Fresh Look With Signature Nothing Design

Staying true to Nothing’s transparent design language, the Ear (3a) arrives with a redesigned charging case inspired by pill packaging, giving it a more rounded and playful appearance. The earbuds will be available in Black, White, Yellow, and a brand-new Pink colour option.

Nothing has also refined the fit with the addition of an extra-small (XS) ear tip, making the earbuds more comfortable for a wider range of users.

Audio Snapshot Brings a New Way to Save Moments

One of the biggest additions is Audio Snapshot, a feature made possible by the earbuds’ built-in 32MB of flash storage.

With a simple pinch gesture on both earbuds, users can instantly capture short audio clips from what they’re listening to, whether it’s part of an online lecture, podcast, or voice message. The system automatically records moments before and after the trigger, creating what Nothing describes as an “audio screenshot.”

Captured clips are synced to the Nothing X app, where they can be replayed, edited, transcribed, and shared as text or quote cards.

Built-In Call Recording

Ear (3a) also introduces onboard call and meeting recording. Users can start recording conversations directly from the earbuds using touch controls without needing to access their smartphone.

Recordings are stored and synchronised with the Nothing X app for playback, editing, and AI-generated transcription. To help protect privacy, the earbuds notify participants whenever recording is active.

Bigger Driver, Better Sound

Audio performance also receives a notable upgrade thanks to a new 12mm dynamic driver, designed to produce deeper bass and improved clarity.

The earbuds support Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification and LDAC, enabling high-resolution wireless streaming of up to 24-bit/96kHz. Users can further customise the sound through the Nothing X app using an eight-band equaliser and share EQ profiles with others.

Nothing has also included Static Spatial Audio, creating a wider and more immersive soundstage for music, movies, and other entertainment.

Improved Active Noise Cancellation

The Ear (3a) features upgraded Wideband Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) capable of reducing noise by up to 45dB.

According to Nothing, improvements to both the acoustic design and ANC algorithm increase overall noise reduction performance by 17.1% compared to the previous generation, particularly in frequencies commonly associated with everyday environmental noise.

A Transparency Mode allows users to remain aware of their surroundings when needed, while six microphones combined with AI-powered noise reduction help deliver clearer voice calls in noisy environments.

Longer Battery Life

Battery life has also been improved, with the earbuds offering up to 10 hours of playback on a single charge with ANC turned off, extending to 42 hours when used with the charging case.

With ANC enabled, users can expect up to 6 hours of listening time, or 25 hours in total including the case. A quick five-minute charge provides approximately one hour of playback.

Nothing X Integration

The Nothing X companion app continues to provide advanced controls including EQ customisation, firmware updates, Find My Earbuds, and personalised settings.

For users of Nothing smartphones, the earbuds also integrate with ChatGPT and Essential News, enabling hands-free AI assistance and daily news updates directly through the earbuds.

Malaysia Availability

Nothing has confirmed that the Ear (3a) will be launched in Malaysia, although local pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.

With AI-powered recording features, enhanced noise cancellation, Hi-Res Audio support, and a distinctive transparent design, the Ear (3a) represents Nothing’s latest effort to combine everyday convenience with premium wireless audio in a stylish package.
