HONOR 600S Review: 5 Reasons Why This Battery-Focused Smartphone Is Worth Considering

The smartphone market is filled with devices competing to offer better cameras, faster performance and premium displays. However, not every user needs a flagship smartphone. For many people, long battery life, reliable durability and sufficient storage are far more important in everyday use.

The HONOR 600S 5G aims to meet these needs with a large 8,100mAh battery, a 120Hz display, IP68/IP69/IP69K water and dust resistance, and 256GB of internal storage. Priced at RM1,299 in Malaysia at launch, the device focuses on practical features designed for users who want a dependable smartphone for work, entertainment and daily communication.

While it makes some compromises in display resolution, camera capabilities and physical RAM, the HONOR 600S has several appealing features. Here are five reasons why it deserves a closer look.

1. An 8,100mAh Battery for Extended Usage

One of the biggest highlights of the HONOR 600S is its massive 8,100mAh battery. With battery capacity becoming increasingly important to smartphone users, this is one of the device’s most attractive features.

The large battery is designed to support extended daily use, making the phone suitable for people who regularly stream videos, browse social media, use messaging applications or spend considerable time away from a power outlet.

For students attending classes throughout the day, commuters travelling long distances and users who frequently work outdoors, having a larger battery can reduce the need to recharge as often.

The HONOR 600S also supports 45W HONOR SuperCharge adaptor included in the box, allowing users to recharge the battery when necessary. Although charging speeds are not particularly aggressive compared with some competing devices, the combination of a large battery and fast-charging support makes the phone a practical option for people who prioritise endurance. Nevertheless, its 8,100mAh capacity gives the HONOR 600S a clear advantage for users who value extended battery life.

2. Enhanced Durability for Everyday Protection

Another reason to consider the HONOR 600S is its focus on durability. The smartphone comes with IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for water and dust resistance, offering additional protection against environmental exposure.

These ratings can provide greater peace of mind for users who frequently commute, work outdoors or use their smartphones in environments where dust and accidental splashes are concerns.

HONOR also advertises drop resistance of up to 2.5 metres under specified laboratory testing conditions. This additional protection may appeal to people who are concerned about accidental drops during everyday use.

With that said, the HONOR 600S places a stronger emphasis on physical protection than many users might expect from a smartphone in its price category.

3. A Large 120Hz Display for Everyday Entertainment

The HONOR 600S features a 6.87-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing plenty of screen space for watching videos, reading articles, browsing websites and using social media applications.

The higher refresh rate allows supported content and interface animations to appear smoother than on a conventional 60Hz display. This can make scrolling through social media feeds and navigating menus feel more responsive.

Its large screen also provides a comfortable viewing area for online learning, reading digital documents and casual entertainment.

However, the display uses an LCD panel with a resolution of 1,592 x 720 pixels. This means it does not offer the same level of sharpness as Full HD+ displays, particularly when viewing small text or detailed images. It also lacks the deeper blacks and contrast typically associated with AMOLED panels.

For users who mainly watch videos, browse the internet and handle everyday tasks, the screen should provide a reasonable experience. Those who prioritise display quality, however, may prefer a competing smartphone with a higher-resolution AMOLED panel.

4. A Dedicated AI Button for Added Convenience

The HONOR 600S also incorporates a dedicated AI button, providing quick access to supported smart features and shortcuts.

Rather than navigating through multiple menus, users can access compatible functions more directly. Depending on the available settings and supported features, the button can make frequently used applications or tools easier to reach.

This addition reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence and shortcuts in modern smartphone software. For users who regularly rely on digital assistants or supported AI features, having a dedicated physical control may improve convenience.

The device runs MagicOS 10 based on Android 16, bringing HONOR’s software interface and compatible smart functions to the phone.

Nevertheless, the usefulness of the AI button will depend on the features available in the software and how frequently users rely on them. It is a welcome convenience, although it should be considered an additional benefit rather than the primary reason to purchase the device.

5. 256GB Storage and a Practical 50MP Main Camera

Storage capacity is another area where the HONOR 600S offers a useful everyday advantage. Its configuration comes with 256GB of internal storage, providing room for applications, photographs, videos, documents and downloaded content.

For users who frequently install applications or keep their media files on their smartphones, this capacity can help reduce the need to manage storage space regularly.

The phone is equipped with a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. It is intended for everyday photography, including casual portraits, food photography, scenery and snapshots for social media.

Under suitable lighting conditions, the main camera should be useful for capturing ordinary moments. However, the final image quality will depend on factors such as sensor performance, image processing and the surrounding lighting.

The camera system is relatively basic compared with more expensive smartphones. The device also features a 5MP front camera, while rear video recording supports resolutions of up to 1080p.

As a result, the HONOR 600S is better suited to casual photography than to users who require advanced camera features, high-resolution selfie videos or a dedicated telephoto camera.

It is also worth noting that the phone’s advertised 12GB memory configuration combines 4GB of physical RAM with 8GB of virtual RAM. Virtual RAM uses internal storage to supplement memory management and is not equivalent to having 12GB of physical RAM.

Design and Everyday Usability

The HONOR 600S is available in Desert Gold and Velvet Black, offering users a choice between a more distinctive finish and a traditional dark colour.

Measuring 8.3mm thick and weighing approximately 216.5g, the device has a relatively substantial build. Its weight is understandable given the large battery, although users who prefer compact and lightweight smartphones may want to handle it before purchasing.

Beyond its physical design, the phone offers 5G connectivity, NFC and stereo speakers, adding to its suitability as an everyday device.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor is positioned for general smartphone tasks rather than flagship-level performance. It should be considered primarily for activities such as messaging, browsing, video streaming and casual gaming, rather than demanding games or intensive multitasking. Overall, the HONOR 600S prioritises practical functionality over premium specifications across every category.

HONOR 600S Price in Malaysia

At launch, the HONOR 600S was priced at RM1,299 in Malaysia, with 256GB of internal storage and a memory configuration consisting of 4GB of physical RAM alongside 8GB of virtual RAM.

A launch promotion reported by Malaysian media offered an RM100 instant rebate, potentially reducing the price to RM1,199 for eligible purchases. Promotional availability and conditions may vary, so buyers should check the latest offers before placing an order.

For its price, the HONOR 600S offers a combination of a large battery, water and dust resistance, a 120Hz display and generous storage capacity. However, its HD+ screen and relatively modest physical RAM are important considerations when comparing it with alternative smartphones. Verdict: Is the HONOR 600S Worth Buying?

Rating

The HONOR 600S is a smartphone designed for people who place greater importance on battery life and durability than on flagship performance or advanced photography.

Its 8,100mAh battery is the main attraction, while its water and dust resistance, large 120Hz display, dedicated AI button and 256GB storage capacity add to its everyday appeal.

These features make it worth considering for students, commuters, travellers and users who want a phone that can handle their daily routines without requiring frequent charging.

However, its HD+ LCD display, 4GB of physical RAM and basic camera configuration mean it is not the most balanced option for every type of user. Those who frequently play demanding games, create video content or take a large number of selfies may want to compare other smartphones in the same price range.

Ultimately, the HONOR 600S is best suited to users who prioritise battery endurance, everyday durability and storage capacity. If those are your main requirements, it offers a practical combination of features at its Malaysian launch price of RM1,299.
