Samsung Electronics has introduced a new 14-meter version of its Onyx Cinema LED display at CinemaCon 2026, expanding its premium cinema lineup for larger auditoriums. The latest model is designed for Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters, offering the same picture quality, reliability and scalability found in Samsung’s existing 5-meter and 10-meter Onyx displays.

As cinemas continue focusing on premium experiences that cannot be replicated at home, larger-format halls have become an important priority. Samsung says the new 14-meter Onyx helps exhibitors create a more immersive viewing environment while making better use of theater space.

Bigger Screen, Premium Performance

Since launching in 2017, Samsung Onyx has gained recognition for delivering deep blacks, vibrant colors and sharp contrast beyond traditional projection systems. The new 14-meter model continues that legacy with support for up to 4K 120Hz playback, smooth motion handling and clear visuals on a larger scale.

To suit the expanded size, the display uses a 3.3mm pixel pitch for consistent image quality. It also supports flexible modular expansion up to 20 meters by adding LED cabinets to the sides and bottom, allowing cinemas to create a seamless floor-to-ceiling screen experience.

Brighter Than Conventional Projection

Samsung Onyx remains the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED display, supporting both 2.39:1 scope and 1.85:1 flat aspect ratios. It delivers peak brightness up to 300 nits, around six times brighter than standard cinema projection, while offering 100% color volume and infinite contrast for deeper blacks and better detail in dark scenes.

Beyond Movie Screenings

The Onyx platform is also suitable for alternative content such as live sports, concerts, gaming tournaments and corporate events. Unlike projector systems, the LED screen maintains consistent brightness and image quality regardless of auditorium size or seating position.

Expanding Global Presence

Samsung also highlighted growing adoption of the latest Onyx lineup worldwide. Recent installations include Pathé Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco, and Trilith Cinemas in Georgia, United States, where five auditoriums now use the newest generation Onyx displays.

With the launch of the 14-meter model, Samsung continues to strengthen its leadership in premium cinema technology as theaters look for new ways to attract audiences with bigger and better viewing experiences.
