Championing an Inclusive Creative Community
Sony Malaysia today announced the launch of the “Nature in Focus” Photography Contest, inviting photography enthusiasts across Malaysia to capture the beauty of the natural world while embarking on their creative journey towards global platforms such as the Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA).

Open to Malaysian residents, the contest runs from 27 April to 31 July 2026, featuring three categories – Wildlife, Macro, and Landscape – designed to inspire creativity, originality and visual storytelling.
Structured across two participation categories—one dedicated to images captured using Sony cameras, and another open category for images captured with any camera system—the competition reflects Sony’s commitment to nurturing an inclusive photography community, where creators of all backgrounds can participate and showcase their work.
Participants of the contest stand a chance to win a range of Sony imaging products, including premium lenses and accessories, further supporting their creative pursuits.
Positioned as a stepping stone within Sony’s broader imaging ecosystem, “Nature in Focus” offers photographers a platform to hone their craft locally, build confidence, and gain exposure, empowering them to progress towards internationally recognised platforms such as Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA).
The SWPA stands among the world’s leading photography competitions, celebrating outstanding work across diverse genres and attracting entries from photographers globally. By participating in initiatives such as “Nature in Focus”, creators in Malaysia are encouraged to build their portfolios, gain recognition, and take their first steps towards competing on an international stage.
To further support creators along this journey, Sony Malaysia continues to invest in a range of initiatives designed to nurture talent and elevate creative capabilities. Through its Sony Workshops platform, creators can access hands-on sessions, masterclasses and guided experiences led by industry professionals. These workshops offer valuable opportunities to refine technical skills, explore new creative approaches, and gain insights into professional workflows. In addition, Sony Malaysia is strengthening its commitment at the grassroots level through strategic collaborations with universities and colleges. This includes partnerships formalised through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with institutions such as Sunway University, reflecting Sony’s dedication to nurture emerging talent from an early stage.
Through these collaborations, Sony engages students via career days, open days, society-led activities, internships, and hands-on workshops, providing meaningful exposure to real-world industry practices, advanced imaging technology, and creative storytelling. Collectively, the initiatives aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations, supporting the development of future-ready creators.
Together, these efforts form part of Sony’s holistic approach to empower the creative community—from grassroots engagement to global recognition.
