Signify Malaysia (formerly Philips Lighting) is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by aligning its smart lighting innovations with Malaysia MADANI’s green growth vision. As the Malaysian Government rolls out initiatives such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024, Signify is actively supporting national objectives through energy-efficient solutions and industry collaborations.
“The NETR lays out six strategic levers to guide Malaysia’s energy transition—two of which prioritize energy efficiency and renewable energy,” said Sukanto Aich, President of Signify Malaysia. “Signify is ready to partner with government and industry stakeholders to accelerate this transition through smart, connected lighting solutions, including solar-powered options.”
Enabling Energy Efficiency Through Innovation

Signify has committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2024 across global operations and aims to reduce full value chain emissions by 50% (from a 2019 baseline) by 2030. Its multi-pronged sustainability strategy includes climate action, circular economy practices, and promoting health, safety, and well-being.
Smart lighting now plays a central role in energy transition. According to the Malaysian National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP), lighting accounts for 15–20% of commercial building energy use. By adopting IoT-connected lighting, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 70%, aligning with the EECA’s goal to institutionalize energy-efficient technologies through audits, minimum performance standards, and labelling.
Driving Real-World Impact Across Malaysia

From local councils to developers and homeowners, there’s growing adoption of smart lighting as a key tool for energy savings and sustainability. Signify’s adaptable systems support Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI) standards and are designed for ease of deployment in both urban and suburban contexts.
The company’s inaugural Signify Innovation Day 2025 gathered green tech stakeholders to showcase how smart lighting can help future-proof infrastructure, lower operational costs, and accelerate Malaysia’s net-zero ambitions.
“We believe energy-efficient smart lighting should be affordable, accessible, and impactful for all Malaysians—not just a luxury for urban centers,” said Aich.
Lighting the Way to a Smarter, Greener Nation
Signify’s continued focus on innovation and partnerships enables it to play a strategic role in Malaysia’s low-carbon transformation. Through scalable, intelligent lighting solutions, the company empowers industries and communities to make sustainable choices every day—supporting the national drive toward a future-ready, greener Malaysia.
