HONOR Magic9 Pro Max Debuts at Venice International Film Festival with ARRI Collaboration

HONOR has unveiled the Magic9 Pro Max at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, highlighting its growing collaboration with professional cinema company ARRI to bring cinematic imaging technology to smartphones.

The Magic9 Pro Max made its first public appearance during the festival, featuring a distinctive moss green finish and a camera module carrying the ARRI logo. Its camera design is also inspired by the styling of one of ARRI’s iconic cinema cameras.

The partnership builds on HONOR and ARRI’s efforts to bring elements of professional filmmaking workflows to mobile devices. Selected technologies from ARRI’s image science have been adapted for smartphone use, giving creators greater flexibility during shooting and post-production.

These include ARRI LogC3, which preserves more highlight and shadow information for editing, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 for a wider colour space, and ARRI Looks for cinematic colour styles. The technologies are designed to give mobile creators greater control over the final look of their footage.

HONOR says the collaboration combines its expertise in mobile imaging, processing and robotics with ARRI’s long history in professional cinema technology. The companies will continue developing and refining their imaging technologies based on technical testing and real-world filmmaking applications.

The collaboration will also extend to the upcoming HONOR Magic9 Series, which is scheduled to launch first in China in late September. HONOR says the new series will bring ARRI cinematic imaging capabilities to a wider range of consumers.

Meanwhile, HONOR’s Robot Phone, co-engineered with ARRI, was also showcased at the Venice festival. Featuring a mechanical gimbal design and professional-oriented imaging capabilities, the device has previously appeared at major film events including the Cannes and Shanghai International Film Festivals.

With the Magic9 Series, HONOR aims to make professional-style cinematic imaging more accessible to everyday smartphone users while giving creators more control over their mobile filmmaking workflow.
