Chong Wan Yong Triumphs in the National & Regional Awards Programme
Sony Malaysia proudly announces Chong Wan Yong as the Malaysia National Award winner for the Sony World Photography Awards 2025.
The National & Regional Awards programme, a joint initiative by Sony and Creo under the World Photography Organisation, aims to celebrate and support photographers across 56 participating countries. This year, the Sony World Photography Awards received an impressive 419,000 submissions from photographers in over 200 countries and territories.
Winners of the National and Regional Awards were selected from the Open competition, which recognizes outstanding single images taken over the past year.
Chong Wan Yong’s Winning Shot – ‘Spider-Verse’
Chong Wan Yong’s breathtaking image, Spider-Verse, was selected anonymously by the judges in the Motion category of the Open competition. The photograph captures a stunning underwater scene where a group of freedivers appear weightless beneath a boat, their silhouettes forming a visually striking composition reminiscent of the Spider-Verse. The image seamlessly blends human movement with the fluidity of aquatic life, creating a mesmerizing underwater spectacle.
With over a decade of experience as a diving instructor, Wan Yong combines her love for the ocean with photography, aiming to capture the beauty of both the land and underwater worlds. Her passion for travel fuels her creativity, and through her work, she hopes to inspire others to explore, protect, and connect with the marine environment.

Expressing her excitement, Wan Yong shared:
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to inspire a deeper connection with our world through the stories my lens captures.”
As Malaysia’s National Award winner, she will receive Sony digital imaging equipment and will have her work featured in the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition and book.
Global Recognition & Upcoming Announcements
The overall winners of the Student, Youth, Open, and Professional competitions for the Sony World Photography Awards 2025 will be announced on 16 April 2025. Their winning works will be showcased at Somerset House, London, from 17 April – 5 May 2025.
