Emirates has taken a major step forward in inflight connectivity with the return of its flagship Airbus A380, now equipped with next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi. The upgrade marks a significant leap from earlier onboard internet systems, delivering speeds of up to 2 Gbps and offering passengers a “better than at home” experience even at cruising altitude.
A New Era of Inflight Connectivity

The newly upgraded A380 features three Starlink antennas and enhanced onboard infrastructure, enabling dramatically faster and more stable internet access. Compared to earlier systems that offered less than 1 Mbps across the entire aircraft, this new setup increases bandwidth by thousands of times.
Passengers across all cabin classes will be able to enjoy complimentary high-speed internet, allowing them to stream content, play online games, browse, and work seamlessly throughout their journey. Future updates are expected to introduce live TV streaming, initially on personal devices and later integrated into seatback entertainment systems.
The first upgraded aircraft recently returned to Dubai after undergoing installation and certification in the UK, marking the beginning of a broader rollout across Emirates’ A380 fleet.
Engineering Innovation for the World’s Largest Passenger Aircraft

Integrating Starlink technology into the double-decker A380 presented unique engineering challenges. To support its high passenger capacity, the aircraft is equipped with additional wireless access points and a third antenna, ensuring consistent connectivity across both decks.
This configuration allows the system to deliver over 2 Gbps of total bandwidth across the cabin, maintaining strong performance even with many users connected simultaneously.
Expanding Across the Fleet
Emirates plans to accelerate Starlink installations across more A380 aircraft throughout 2026, with work set to take place at its engineering facilities in Dubai. The airline has already equipped 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with Starlink, with over 650,000 passengers having experienced the service to date.
Enhancing the Emirates Experience

The addition of Starlink builds on Emirates’ broader efforts to enhance the passenger journey. The A380 remains one of the most iconic aircraft in commercial aviation, known for features such as its onboard lounge and First Class shower spa.
Beyond connectivity, Emirates continues to invest heavily in fleet upgrades, including refurbished cabins, Premium Economy seating, enhanced Business Class, and improved inflight entertainment systems offering more than 6,500 channels.
The airline is also investing in service excellence, with initiatives such as its dedicated hospitality training centre designed to elevate onboard service standards for its global cabin crew.
Emirates in Malaysia
Emirates has been operating in Malaysia since 1996, offering connections between Kuala Lumpur and Dubai. The airline currently runs 21 weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport using both A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
Through partnerships with Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air, passengers can connect to multiple domestic and regional destinations seamlessly.
With the introduction of Starlink-powered connectivity on the A380, Emirates is once again redefining the inflight experience—bringing fast, reliable internet to the skies and setting a new standard for long-haul travel.
