Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 Makes It Easier to Keep Track of What Matters
Samsung has introduced the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smaller and lighter Bluetooth tracker designed to make it easier for users to locate belongings and keep track of everyday items.
Compared with the previous generation, the Galaxy SmartTag3 is around 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter, making it easier to attach to keys, bags, luggage and pet collars. It also features an updated design with an aluminum-decorated button, while optional Silicone and Loop Cases provide additional attachment options.
For the first time in the Galaxy SmartTag series, SmartTag3 supports cross-OS compatibility, allowing Galaxy and iOS users to access selected tracking and sharing functions through SmartThings Find. However, some features remain exclusive to Galaxy devices.
Longer Battery Life and Improved Finding
Battery life is another major upgrade. The Galaxy SmartTag3 can operate for up to 550 days under standard use, increasing to as much as 790 days in Power Saving Mode.
Finding nearby items has also been improved. With Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, Compass View can provide distance and directional guidance from up to 60 metres under suitable line-of-sight conditions. Supported Galaxy devices with UWB can provide more precise positioning as users get closer to the tag.
When the tag moves outside the phone’s direct Bluetooth range, Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network can help locate it through participating Galaxy devices. Samsung says the network now includes more than 900 million devices worldwide, potentially allowing location information to be updated even when the owner’s phone is no longer nearby.
New Alerts Keep Users Informed
The SmartTag3 also introduces new features designed to provide more proactive notifications.
Place Notification allows users to set a specific area and receive an alert when a tagged item enters or leaves that location. This could be useful for monitoring items such as bicycles or keeping track of a pet.
Users can also review recent movements through Location History, while Movement Detection Alert can notify them when movement is detected after the SmartTag3 has lost its direct connection with the user’s device.
Existing features such as Lost Mode, Left Behind Alert and SmartThings IoT controls are also retained, giving users additional ways to locate belongings or trigger compatible smart-home routines.
Designed with Privacy in Mind
The Galaxy SmartTag3 maintains an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and supports NFC-based Lost Mode, allowing registered contact information or a message to be displayed when the tag is scanned by a compatible smartphone.
Samsung says location information is encrypted to help protect user privacy.
Availability
The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 will launch first in South Korea on 7 October 2026, followed by the United States, with additional markets expected from 2027.
It will be available in White and Black. Samsung has not yet announced a Malaysia release date.
