Almost Perfect Foldable Phone

The foldable phone these days are just slowly becoming common and rising up slowly becoming more visible in today’s market as innovation improved till this day. We will have a quick look at the newly announced OPPO Find N in this quick review and see is foldable phone is the way of the future.

Design and Ports

The OPPO Find N design is built focused on the Foldable phone, which the front of the phone when folded you will have your standard display while when unfolded you will have a larger screen to be utilized like a tablet, making it a productive 2 in 1 device.

Towards the folding mechanism, the OPPO Find N uses a very steady fold to unfold mechanism in the middle part of the phone to control its opening and closing of the device, which to my experience when using it, it is very stable although the unit that we are using is the preview media unit. This shows that OPPO spend a lot of time towards its research of the foldable technologies, which it does impresses me since this is actually OPPO first attempt on selling this device to the public very soon.

While we did not receive the retail unit, the OPPO Find N should come with the following
– The OPPO Find N Phone
– USB A to C Cable
– Fast Charger
– Quick Start Guide/User Manual

As a high end device, the OPPO Find N really shows it, with its black box packaging, you will spot the phone unfolded straight away in front of you, and all you need to do is pick it up, setup and you can start using the phone. Lets talk about physical connectivity, where you will only spot one USB C connection for charging, data and and also as the only connection for your headphone. While no converters and headphones are supplied, you can easily get one from any accessories shop nearby, as long its a USB C headphone or a USB C to 3.5mm headphone jack.

Continuing on the sides (when unfolded), on the right hand side, there is a power button which is also a fingerprint scanner while on the left side are the Volume UP/Down buttons. The bottom portion houses a pair of speakers, a USB C slot, Dual Sim slot and a microphone. So far the experience on the speakers is pretty good, although both of the speakers are located below only, making it sounded like a mono experience to me. On the top you will only spot one unit of microphone.

The OPPO Find N when writing this review we only learnt that it would come in 3 colors, Black, Purple and White. The phone carries the weight of 275 grams which is quite balance in body to weight ratio and since this is a foldable device, one or many can accept the weight just ok, since you are carrying a 2 in 1 device.

Display

Over the display side of view, the OPPO Find N has two displays. On the front of the display, it is powered by a 5.49 Inch FHD+ AMOLED screen up to 60Hz. Display is fairly displayed well with good contrast level and OPPO maintain its right ratio size of its 18:9 screen display. When unfolded, you will get a full 7.1 inch LTPO AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDR 10+.
The part where impresses me is it can boost the brightness close to 1000nits and over its unfolding part, it is close to perfection where there is no creases visible in the middle of the screen display. This gives a perfect viewing experience, whether you are streaming a few videos or even playing a few session of games with it. If you love foldable phones, this could be the right one.

Camera

When it comes to the camera portion, the OPPO Find N rear camera consists of one 50MP camera with PDAF and OIS, one 13MP telephoto camera with PDAF and a 13MP ultrawide lens, followed by a pair of LED flash. Pictures taken were clear during day with good amount of light and clarity produced on each picture. During darker environment shots, it came out quite as well with visible shadows and contrasts that is mostly thanks to its good arrangement of the rear camera specifications and hardware. The selfie images are bright and good during day time as well which is powered by a 32MP wide angle lens on both the front display and the unfolded one as well. A few shots were taken over different modes as above and the result truly works well. A sample of 20x zoom, normal and automatic shots taken were balanced, with minimal present. Besides that other modes such as Panorama and Macro shots mode are also supported over the rear camera.

On video recording you get support up to 4K at 60FPS, stutters are minimal while recording but it’s very minor with average details during recording.

Performance

Performance portion under the hood, the OPPO Find N is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G Octa-Core Processor, 512GB of internal storage and 12GB RAM with RAM expansion up to 7GB optionally. Call quality test shows little to no issues with a choice of calling via VOLTE or WOWIFI depending on your Telco Carrier. Once 3G towers shutting down by end of this year, this device should have no effect on your daily use. The phone does come with fast blazing 5G connectivity support, WiFi 6 AX, Bluetooth 5. Testing over WiFi connection gets up to an average of 900MBPS transfer speeds, ensuring blazing fast speed for multimedia and streaming.

Over to the gaming side, this phone is a beast with games from Mobile Legends up to Genshin Impact, you can set it up to High in graphic settings up to 60FPS, while other games which supports high refresh rates, you will get to enjoy all the smoothness up to 120hz you can get when playing with the unfolded screen on games such as Temple Run.

Above is the initial Benchmark performance, which delivers a flagship performing scores on each of the test between its graphics, and processor performance. The OPPO Find N is suitable for those seeking for a high end range performing phones.

Battery performance wise, you will get around just 7 hours of it, a mix of calls, surfing, email, streaming, and a few Call Of Duty matches. Turning on the battery saving mode under 20% will get you around extra 2 hours of conservative usage. The OPPO Find N comes with a 33W fast charger built in 4300mAH capacity battery, which will charge up the phone to 50% from 10% in around 28min average.
