Samsung’s innovative WindFree™ air conditioners have been widely acclaimed across the globe since their launch in 2017. With an impressive average annual growth rate of 30.7% over the past three years (as of the end of the first half of 2024), the technology has become a favorite among consumers outside Korea.

Why WindFree™ Technology Stands Out

Samsung Newsroom delved into the reasons behind the global success of WindFree™ technology. A recent survey conducted by Samsung involving 1,840 respondents from Brazil, India, Italy, Korea, Thailand, and the United States revealed that 44.6% (820) of participants prefer WindFree™ air conditioning. Notably, 58% of these users cited “comfortable sleep” as the main reason for their preference. This indicates a growing expectation for air conditioners to provide more than just cooling, offering enhanced comfort tailored to different needs.

The survey also highlighted that air conditioners are most commonly used around bedtime, with nearly half (48%) of respondents using their units from 9 p.m. until they fall asleep, and 42% using them throughout the night.

How WindFree™ Technology Works

WindFree™ technology features an advanced design that disperses air evenly through 270,000 micro air holes, creating a gentle cooling effect without the harsh sensation of cold air on the skin. Once the room reaches the desired temperature, the unit automatically switches to WindFree™ mode, providing a calm, comfortable environment conducive to deep sleep.

Another key benefit of WindFree™ air conditioning is energy efficiency. The survey found that “energy savings compared to normal mode” was the second most popular reason for choosing WindFree™. As concerns about climate change grow, consumers are increasingly seeking solutions that reduce electricity consumption. In WindFree™ mode, energy use can be reduced by up to 77% compared to maximum cooling settings, offering significant savings during the hot summer months.

Respondents also appreciated WindFree™ air conditioning for its “even cooling” (50%), “minimizing physical irritation” (48%), and “AI automatic cooling” features (44%).

Global Recognition and Awards

WindFree™ air conditioners have earned numerous international accolades, including top honors for three consecutive years at the 2024 Korean Innovation Frontier Awards, the MCE Excellence Award at the 2024 Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE), and the Top Quality/Price award in 2022 from the German Institute for Quality and Finance (ITQF), one of Europe’s leading certification bodies.

Byoungha Song, Head of Air Solution Product Planning Group, DA Business at Samsung Electronics, remarked, “Since its debut in 2016, WindFree™ air conditioning has garnered significant appreciation from consumers around the world. We will continue to provide innovative products that deliver personalized care to all of our users.”
