Solid, Affordable Gaming Laptop
Its been a rock solid time again for ASUS when it comes to introducing it’s gaming laptop lineup, over the past 2 months, we have seen ASUS introduce the 2022 models for ROG series, and the TUF series gets the same treatment as well with a refresh this year.
The TUF always comes with several configurations, the A Series for the AMD and F series for the Intel series, both carries different processor brands but they are all fresh and new in its on releases and improvements. So for this time we will review the TUF A15, the AMD Ryzen version of the TUF laptop.
Do take note there could be differences in configurations for several SKU in different area or regions, but we will display the specs as we review along for the local Malaysian variant.
Design and Ports
The A15 is almost the same as the last year’s design with the same A15 naming convention, bringing in the MIL STD toughness to it with military inspired design over the cover of the laptop behind the screen that is further revamped with better cooling and ventilation over the sides, bottom cover and the top portion of the laptop which dissipates and channeling the heat out equal and rapid. The bezels surrounding the display is still there but I can live with that as it is not intrusive and provides a stable hold over hinge with a webcam just right on top of the latch opening the screen in the middle. Overall I find it pleasing while still practical for it’s design purpose.
With that the laptop carries a weight of just 2.2KG over a 15.6 inch size which is still lightweight for a gaming laptop category that houses a gaming specification to it. The Mecha Grey color is set as a gunmetal like feel to it that still represent itself as a tough, gaming laptop.
The Keyboard is not a fancy one, but reliable from typing and gaming which is really comfortable with users get the grip of it fast, which is a rightly spaced and good key travel. However do take note the RGB configuration is just on a single zone, and it is configurable via ASUS Armory Crate App.
The TUF A15 Gaming houses a good reasonable number of connections and ports, with 1 HDMI, Audio Jack, LAN Jack, 2 USB A, and 2 USB C 3.2 with Thunderbolt which is highly welcomed enabling anyone to plug in any accessories and expands to more external display with choices available over the ports.
Display and Audio
Specifically the variant we got comes with a 15.6 inch 1080P 144Hz adaptive display, which is anti-glare, making it viewing friendly on most angle while the slight downside is the 62.5% sRGB rating, it is still fairly reasonable if you are just using it mostly for gaming, text authoring, and minor grade editing using the laptop’s display, or otherwise if you wish for higher color accuracy, one can always attach to a better external monitor to further editing images which requires higher color accuracy on displays.
Over to the Audio, it does produce sound, not that loud, but tinny sounds, so this is only suitable if you are playing it over a much silent environment or a small to medium size bedroom, that is also provided if you are using it in combination of the Dolby Audio app which came with the Operating System and ASUS, take some time to adjust over the profiles and you should be able to gauge it in time. Or otherwise plugging in an external headphones or speakers will work as well.
Performance & Benchmarks
The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 features AMD Ryzen™ 7 6800H Processor with Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics + Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 4GB, 8GB DDR5 system RAM and 512GB of NVME Gen 3 SSD. Below are the benchmark results.
During benchmark well, based on our observation, be prepared to get a temperature rise up to 87 degree Celsius but thanks to the TUF casing clever design over the ventilation portion, it will take around 10 to 15 minutes to return back to its idle temp of 45 degrees Celsius, which is still within it’s operating limit for the TUF A15 laptop.
We tested 3 games on this laptop and below are the best configurations.
GAME | SETTINGS | AVERAGE FPS |
SoTTR | 1080P, High | 80FPS |
Horizon Zero Dawn | 1080P, NORMAL, VSYNC OFF | 75FPS |
FarCry 6 | 1080P, High | 62FPS |
The Laptop GPU is equipped with integrated AMD Radeon Graphics with Dedicated GeForce RTX 3050, which allows the laptop to dedicate based on how intensive an app will use the graphic via ASUS MUX Switch that by default it will determine the best operating scenario for the user. The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 can run even your most modern latest game at medium to high settings without issues but one should take note due to it’s VRAM limit, you might wan to just configure your game graphical settings and tweaks to keep it smooth while gaming at a high framerate. To add, most features such as MUX switch, personalization and monitoring can be done via Armory Crate App.
General performance wise, you should have no issues on authoring and rendering with your daily editing applications, streaming, multimedia and office applications.

Verdict & Thoughts
The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 2022 is one laptop that targets gaming portability with classic gaming design features that gamers most needed, you get best of both from AMD and Nvidia, coupling with the latest modern Windows 11 certified hardware and a fast adaptive display that works on both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia GSync compatibility, marking also a laptop that utilizes full RDNA 2 graphics feature if you wish to operate just on the iGPU on eSports titles while you can full dive with the Dedicated GPU for all your intensive graphical rendering and Triple A game titles. The only downside is the built in speaker which I wish it could be more louder, otherwise with such combined offering, I can play and work with this Laptop all day long.
Currently at this point of writing, the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 2022 is priced from RM4,999 starting with 8GB RAM/512GB storage, 2 Year Warranty and Windows 11 Home Installed.
