HONOR Pad 20 Full Review: A Big-Screen Tablet That Takes Entertainment and Productivity Seriously

The tablet market has become increasingly competitive, with manufacturers packing larger displays, bigger batteries and more productivity-focused features into devices that remain relatively slim and portable. The new HONOR Pad 20 is a good example of this trend, combining a large 12.1-inch 3K display, Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 performance, a huge 10,100mAh battery and a six-speaker audio system.

Positioned below HONOR’s more premium MagicPad series range, the Pad 20 is designed to cover a wide range of uses. It can be a large entertainment screen for movies and YouTube, a portable device for work and study, or even a laptop replacement when paired with HONOR’s optional keyboard and Magic Pencil 4s (USB C).

For Malaysia, the HONOR Pad 20 is available in Wi-Fi and 5G configurations, with the Wi-Fi model listed at RM1,999 and the 5G version at RM2,299. However in this review, we will be focusing on the WiFi only model, but we will still mention the 5G model along the way.

Design: Slim, Clean and Surprisingly Manageable

Despite carrying a massive battery and a 12.1-inch display, the HONOR Pad 20 doesn’t feel overly bulky. The tablet measures 277.07 x 179.28 x 6.29mm, while the Wi-Fi version weighs approximately 525g. The 5G model is slightly heavier at around 548g.

The aluminium-style metal construction gives it a premium feel without making the tablet unnecessarily heavy. Its relatively slim 6.29mm profile also makes it comfortable to slip into a backpack or laptop compartment. The overall design is deliberately understated. There isn’t an excessive amount of branding or visual decoration, which gives the Pad 20 a professional appearance. This makes it equally suitable for the office, classroom or living room.

Of course, a 12.1-inch tablet is never going to be something you comfortably hold with one hand for hours. However, when placed on a desk, table or lap, the size becomes one of its biggest advantages.

12.1-inch 3K Display Is One of Its Biggest Strengths

The display is arguably the main reason to consider the HONOR Pad 20. It comes with a 12.1-inch LCD panel with a 3000 x 1872 resolution, delivering a sharp 292ppi pixel density. It also supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, while offering up to 700 nits of peak brightness, 1.07 billion colours and DCI-P3 wide colour gamut support.

Watching Netflix, YouTube and other multimedia content feels far more immersive compared with using a conventional smartphone. The high resolution also makes text, photographs and webpages look crisp, while the 120Hz refresh rate keeps scrolling and animations smooth.

Colours are punchy without looking excessively artificial, and the wide colour gamut is particularly useful when viewing photographs and video. The 16:10-ish aspect ratio also works well for productivity. You get considerably more usable workspace than on a smartphone, making it easier to work with documents, spreadsheets and multiple applications.

Eye Comfort Is Taken Seriously

HONOR has also placed considerable emphasis on eye comfort. The Pad 20 includes several eye-care technologies, including hardware low blue light reduction, global DC dimming, flicker-free operation, dynamic dimming, AI Circadian Night Display and a motion-sickness relief mode. It also carries TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light and flicker-free operation.

For anyone who spends several hours reading, browsing or working on a tablet, these features are more meaningful than they might initially appear. The large display combined with the eye-comfort features makes the Pad 20 particularly well suited to reading PDFs, ebooks, online documents and long-form articles.

Performance: Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Gets the Job Done

Powering the HONOR Pad 20 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 mobile platform with up to 8GB of RAM (for 5G Models) and 256GB of internal UFS storage. While it isn’t designed to compete directly with the fastest flagship tablet processors, but that’s not necessarily a problem. The Pad 20 is aimed more at everyday productivity, entertainment and moderate gaming rather than replacing a high-end gaming tablet.

For typical tasks such as browsing, watching videos, using social media, editing documents and switching between applications, performance is smooth.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also provides enough graphics performance for casual and moderately demanding games. Gamers looking to play titles such as PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends or similar games should have a pleasant experience, although serious users who want maximum graphics settings and consistently high frame rates should still look towards tablets with flagship chipsets. This is where the positioning of the Pad 20 becomes clear: it’s built to be a balanced all-rounder rather than a performance monster.

MagicOS 10 Makes It More Than Just a Big Android Screen

The HONOR Pad 20 runs MagicOS 10 based on Android 16, bringing a number of features designed specifically for a larger display.

One of the more useful additions is PC Mode. When enabled, the interface becomes more desktop-like, with a dock, multi-window support and more familiar controls. This makes the tablet feel much closer to a lightweight laptop when you’re working with documents or multiple applications.

With the included accessories, the experience becomes even more useful when paired with the Smart Bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Pencil 4s.

The keyboard provides a laptop-style typing experience for emails, documents and longer writing sessions, while the Magic Pencil is useful for note-taking, annotations and creative work. HONOR also supports mouse input and keyboard shortcuts in PC Mode, which makes the Pad 20 more practical for productivity. The only downside is both of the accessories still requires separate charging, and I do prefer magnetically attached charging with tablet all together.

AI Features Are a Nice Bonus

The Pad 20 also brings several AI-powered productivity features. These include AI Memo, AI Writing Tools and AI Translation. AI Memo can assist with recording and transcribing meetings, generating summaries and organising information into more useful formats.

For students, journalists, business users and anyone who attends frequent meetings, these features could save quite a bit of time. The important thing is that the AI tools aren’t simply there for marketing purposes. When combined with the large display and PC Mode, they contribute towards making the tablet a more useful productivity machine.

Battery Life: 10,100mAh Is a Serious Advantage

Battery life is another area where the HONOR Pad 20 stands out. The HONOR Pad 20 comes with a huge 10,100mAh battery, which is one of the biggest selling points of the device. HONOR claims up to nine hours of video playback, seven hours of gaming, 10 hours of note-taking and up to 14 hours of reading under its laboratory testing conditions.

In real-world use, battery life naturally varies depending on brightness, refresh rate, network connectivity and applications. However, the large battery means you don’t constantly have to worry about finding a charger during a normal working or study day. For someone who uses the tablet primarily for browsing, video streaming, reading and office work, the Pad 20 can comfortably serve as an all-day companion.

The 5G model is particularly useful for people who frequently work away from Wi-Fi, although the cellular version’s additional weight is something to consider.

Six Speakers Make It a Great Entertainment Tablet

HONOR equips the Pad 20 with a six-speaker system and HONOR Spatial Audio. The result is considerably more immersive than what you’d typically get from a smartphone or basic tablet.

There’s enough volume for watching videos without immediately reaching for headphones, while dialogue remains clear and music has a reasonably wide soundstage. This is especially useful when watching movies or YouTube content with the tablet placed horizontally. For a tablet positioned as an entertainment and productivity device, the combination of the large 3K screen and six speakers makes a lot of sense.

Cameras: Functional Rather Than Revolutionary

Tablets generally aren’t purchased for their cameras, and the HONOR Pad 20 follows that philosophy. It comes with an 8MP rear camera, while the front camera is intended primarily for video calls and everyday communication. Image quality is adequate for scanning documents, taking quick reference photographs and making video calls, but this isn’t a device I’d recommend buying specifically for photography.

The front-facing camera is more important here, particularly for online meetings, classes and video conferencing. In other words, the cameras do their job, but they’re not the star of the show, and you would rather have your phone taking all the pictures.

Connectivity: Wi-Fi or 5G?

One of the biggest advantages of the Malaysian lineup is the choice between Wi-Fi and 5G configurations. The Wi-Fi model makes more sense for users who primarily use the tablet at home, in the office or at places with reliable wireless networks. The 5G version is more attractive for people who travel frequently or want the freedom to work and stream content without relying on a Wi-Fi hotspot. The cellular version is slightly heavier, but the additional connectivity can be worth it for mobile professionals and students.

Productivity: Can It Really Replace a Laptop?

The answer depends heavily on what you do. For emails, web browsing, Microsoft Office-style work, documents, presentations, video calls, note-taking and light multitasking, the HONOR Pad 20 can come surprisingly close to replacing a basic laptop. The optional keyboard and PC Mode make the experience significantly better with the large 12.1-inch display also gives you enough room to work with multiple windows without everything feeling cramped.

So I’d describe the Pad 20 as an excellent laptop companion or lightweight laptop alternative, rather than a complete laptop replacement.

Verdict: A Very Well-Balanced Large-Screen Tablet

The HONOR Pad 20 is not trying to be the most powerful Android tablet on the market, and that’s actually one of its strengths. Instead, HONOR has focused on creating a balanced device with a large, high-resolution display, strong battery life, capable everyday performance, good audio and useful productivity features.

The 12.1-inch 3K 120Hz display is excellent for both entertainment and work, while the 10,100mAh battery provides the endurance needed for long sessions. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 delivers enough performance for everyday applications and gaming, while MagicOS 10 and PC Mode give the tablet a more productive personality.

At only RM1,999 for the Wi-Fi version and RM2,299 for the 5G model, the Pad 20 sits in an interesting position in Malaysia’s tablet market. If your priorities are a big screen, long battery life, entertainment, reading, studying and everyday productivity, the HONOR Pad 20 is an easy tablet to recommend.

It may not be the fastest tablet around, but it doesn’t need to be. What it delivers is a very convincing all-round experience—and for many users, that could be more valuable than chasing benchmark numbers.
