REHDA Johor Appoints Gerard Soosay as New Chairperson Amid Johor’s Transformation Growth

The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) Johor Branch has appointed Gerard Soosay as its 50th Chairperson following its Annual General Meeting on 21 May 2025, marking a new leadership chapter as Johor continues its rapid economic and urban transformation.

Gerard, who currently serves as CEO of Sunway Property (Southern Region) and Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, brings over 30 years of experience in the building and property industry. His appointment comes as Johor gains stronger regional prominence through developments such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), the upcoming RTS Link, and growing cross-border investment momentum.

In his first remarks as Chairperson, Gerard emphasized REHDA Johor’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between developers, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to support sustainable and future-ready development across the state.

He noted that Johor is entering a new growth phase driven by stronger connectivity, investment inflows, and regional integration, adding that REHDA Johor aims to continue advocating for progressive, people-centric development while contributing to the state’s long-term growth.

REHDA Johor also announced its new leadership lineup for the 2026–2028 term:

  • Deputy Chairperson – Chong Kai Siang
  • Treasurer – Michael Fu Yueh Yee
  • Secretary – Ir Hj Syarul Izam bin Hj Sarifudin
  • Assistant Secretary – Tan Yee Seong

Gerard succeeds outgoing Chairlady Tan Lindy and expressed appreciation for her leadership and contributions during her tenure. He also acknowledged former REHDA Johor chairpersons, including Wong Boon Lang and Dato’ Steve Chong, for helping shape the association over the years.

The new leadership team reflects REHDA Johor’s continued focus on industry collaboration, sustainable development, and supporting Johor’s growing role within the Malaysia-Singapore economic corridor.
