Theme: “Liveable and Lovable Precinct” aligns with DBKL’s vision for Kuala Lumpur

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA), together with KLCC Holdings, officially launched the third edition of Sustainable September, officiated by YBhg Datuk Seri TPr. (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, alongside Datuk Sr Mohd Salem Kailany, Group Chief Executive Officer of KLCC Holdings.

Carrying the theme “Liveable and Lovable Precinct”, this year’s campaign supports DBKL’s vision of a liveable and lovable Kuala Lumpur, reinforcing the KLCC Precinct’s mission to promote environmental stewardship and community well-being. The initiative is also supported by Urbanice Malaysia, highlighting a united effort to embed sustainability into the city’s future.

“Sustainable September reflects our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and our ambition to shape KLCC Precinct as a model where leisure and business can thrive sustainably. By integrating sustainability into everything we do, we are building a greener, healthier precinct while creating a legacy of resilience for future generations,” said Datuk Salem Kailany.

Community-Driven Activities

The launch at KLCC Park featured a fun run, a tree-planting ceremony, and an energising Zumba session — symbolic of the campaign’s mission to nurture both the environment and community health.

For the first time, the campaign includes a precinct-wide fundraising initiative, with hotels, retail, and business partners offering special experiences and packages. The effort targets RM30,000 in funds, which will be channelled to a charitable cause aligned with sustainability and social good.

“Sustainability is not an add-on — it sits at the heart of KLCCBEA’s vision for a future-ready precinct. Through collaboration with DBKL, Urbanice Malaysia, and KLCC Holdings, we are proud to support Kuala Lumpur’s journey to becoming a truly liveable and lovable city,” said John Burke, Chairman of KLCCBEA.

Strengthening KLCC Park as the City’s Green Lung

This year, the programme expands through a collaboration with FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia) under the national “Kempen Penanaman 100 Juta Pokok”. A total of 48 new trees will be planted within KLCC Park, further reinforcing its role as an essential green lung for the city and a shared community space.

From Precinct to Regional Model

Since its introduction in 2022 with Urbanice Malaysia, Sustainable September has grown into a precinct-wide movement, engaging hotels, retailers, and city partners to deliver real, measurable action. Earlier this year, KLCCBEA was invited to present the initiative at the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) Business Assembly, where it was recognised as a pioneering model with the potential to scale city-wide.

Now in its third year, Sustainable September continues to unite partners and communities, advancing the KLCC Precinct as a model of sustainable urban living in the heart of Kuala Lumpur — a precinct that is truly liveable and lovable.
