Sony has officially unveiled the RX1R III, the third generation of its acclaimed full-frame premium compact camera series. Designed for discerning photographers, the RX1R III brings the power of a 61MP Exmor R™ full-frame sensor, advanced AI-driven autofocus, and a ZEISS® Sonnar T 35mm F2 fixed lens* — all in a palm-sized, premium build.
Stunning Image Quality in Every Frame
At the heart of the RX1R III is a 61MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor, paired with the BIONZ XR™ image processor, offering exceptional resolution, low noise, and a wide dynamic range. A special AR (Anti-Reflection) coating and the absence of an optical low-pass filter ensure maximum clarity and detail.
The lens and sensor are meticulously aligned for optimal image quality, producing results that rival larger professional systems despite the camera’s ultra-compact form factor.
AI Autofocus and Creative Freedom
Borrowing AI technologies from Sony’s Alpha™ lineup, the RX1R III features AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF that tracks subjects—human or otherwise—even when partially obscured. With 693 phase-detection AF points covering 78% of the frame, users can expect fast, precise focus across a wide area.
A new Step Crop Shooting function gives creators flexible in-camera framing, offering 35mm, 50mm, and 70mm focal length equivalents. When shooting RAW, focal length adjustments can also be made in post. The built-in macro mode lets users shoot as close as 20cm with 0.26x magnification.
For visual storytellers, the camera includes 12 Creative Looks including FL2 and FL3, offering nostalgic tones or vibrant color styles for both stills and video.
Premium Design and Functionality
Crafted from lightweight magnesium alloy, the RX1R III is robust yet compact, with a redesigned flat top plate, improved grip, and integrated dials. A 2.36M-dot OLED EVF offers a crisp and immersive viewing experience at 0.70x magnification.
The camera uses Sony’s NP-FW50 battery, supporting up to 300 shots on a single charge. A USB-C port supports fast charging and external power, ensuring longer creative sessions without interruptions.
Sustainability and Accessibility
The RX1R III supports Sony’s Road to Zero environmental vision. It’s produced in facilities powered by 100% renewable energy, and the camera packaging uses Sony’s Original Blended Material, eliminating plastic waste.
Accessibility is also enhanced with features like a Screen Reader and Display Magnification, making it more inclusive for visually impaired users.
