Samsung’s newly launched Galaxy Z Fold7 is now the thinnest foldable smartphone in Galaxy history, measuring just 8.9mm when folded, remarkable 48% thinner than the original Galaxy Fold introduced in 2019. This major design milestone was unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 in New York, showcasing the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation in form, function, and durability.

Over six generations, the Galaxy Z Fold series has consistently evolved. While the first five years saw a gradual 29% reduction in thickness, the Z Fold7 alone accounts for a stunning 26% reduction in just one year compared to the Z Fold6.

A Design Evolution in Motion

2019 – Galaxy Fold: Introduced foldable tech with a 17.1mm folded profile
2020 – Z Fold2: Added Hideaway Hinge, reducing thickness to 16.8mm
2021 – Z Fold3: Introduced S Pen support, water resistance, and trimmed to 16.0mm
2022 – Z Fold4: Linear hinge reduced folded profile to 15.8mm
2023 – Z Fold5: Flex Hinge enabled a gapless fold, down to 13.4mm
2024 – Z Fold6: Dual rail hinge brought it down to 12.1mm
2025 – Z Fold7: New Armor FlexHinge achieves an ultra-slim 8.9mm folded / 4.2mm unfolded
