Canon Marketing Malaysia (“Canon”) has officially announced the release of the EOS R5 Mark II, a state-of-the-art full-frame mirrorless camera that sets new standards with its 45-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor and Accelerated Capture image processor system. This latest addition to Canon’s esteemed “5 series” integrates innovative features such as Eye Control AF and Cinema EOS functionalities, further elevating the capabilities of the EOS R5.

The EOS R5 Mark II features a groundbreaking 45-megapixel BSI stacked CMOS sensor paired with the new Accelerated Capture System. This system combines the all-new DIGIC Accelerator and DIGIC X image processor, enabling it to handle high data volumes at exceptional speeds. These advancements pave the way for enhanced features and superior AF performance.
Dual Pixel Intelligent AF: Smarter Subject Detection and Tracking
Equipped with Dual Pixel Intelligent AF, the EOS R5 Mark II leverages deep learning and the Accelerated Capture system to deliver improved subject tracking and detection in both video and stills. This system is highly accurate, even in challenging scenarios where subjects cross paths or obstruct the main subject. The Register People Priority function is particularly beneficial for events and concert photography, allowing users to prioritize a pre-registered individual even in crowded settings. Additionally, the new Action Priority AF mode automatically adjusts the focus point for dynamic sports photography.
Enhanced AF Control
The EOS R5 Mark II introduces Eye Control AF for the first time in the “5 series,” allowing users to shift the AF frame by simply looking at the desired subject. Updated optics and an improved detection algorithm enhance the responsiveness and stability of eye movement detection.
Both photographers and videographers can store and recall specific focus positions using the focus preset function, previously available only on super telephoto lenses. Up to six different AF settings can be registered for quick adaptation to varying shooting conditions.
Advanced Video Capabilities
The EOS R5 Mark II offers creative flexibility with its internal 8K DCI 60p RAW video recording support and a variety of industry-standard recording modes. The camera includes features from the Cinema EOS system, such as 4K DCI 60p SRAW recording and simultaneous recording of smaller 2K or Full HD proxy video files. These features enhance post-production efficiency and allow for high-quality slow-motion video capture.
Elevate Your Visual Storytelling
Both the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II support 10-bit Canon Log 2, providing vivid color reproduction and a dynamic range of 16+ stops. This feature, favored by filmmakers, enhances post-production possibilities. The EOS R5 Mark II also includes Cinema EOS Custom Pictures, allowing LUTs to be applied in-camera for better visualization during shooting.
Seamless Integration with Cinema EOS
The EOS R5 Mark II adopts the new XF-AVC S/XF-HEVC S file system, similar to the Cinema EOS file system, streamlining workflows for multi-camera projects. Cinema EOS tools like waveform monitors, false colors, and zebra displays provide detailed exposure information, improving on-set accuracy and efficiency.
Capturing the Perfect Moment
The pre-recording feature, inherited from Cinema EOS cameras, captures scenes up to 5 seconds before recording starts. This feature is remotely controllable via the Camera Connect mobile app, reducing the need for continuous recording and minimizing file sizes.
In-Camera Image Enhancements
The EOS R5 Mark II incorporates Neural Network Noise Reduction to minimize noise in high-ISO RAW images while preserving detail. An in-camera upscaling function quadruples the pixel count, enhancing image resolution to up to 179 megapixels with minimal quality loss.
Durable and Reliable Design
Built for demanding shoots, the EOS R5 Mark II features dust- and drip-resistant weather sealing. It includes a blackout-free EVF with improved brightness and anti-fog performance, ensuring a clear view even in adverse conditions. The 5-axis In-Body IS system offers up to 8.5 stops of image stabilization when paired with compatible RF lenses.
Enhanced Power and Connectivity
The EOS R5 Mark II is powered by the new Battery Pack LP-E6P, compatible with existing LP-E6 series batteries. The USB Power Adapter PD-E2 and DC Coupler DR-E6P provide direct power during extended shoots. For vertical shooting support, users can opt for the Battery Grip BG-R20 or BG-R20EP, the latter featuring an additional 2.5G Base-T Ethernet port for high-speed wired communication.
