Small, Compact and Lightweight 2 in 1 Laptop

Detachable 2 in 1 laptop comes in many sizes, resolution and features that actually caters towards portability and productivity. But some may say it has to be fast, some would fast as long it works for the person then it is a reliable companion.

Today we will look at the latest offering from ASUS this year, the ExpertBook B3 Detachable (2022), a 2 in 1 tablet/laptop powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen2 SOC.

Design

The ASUS ExpertBook B3 design is based on any standard tablets today, with its classic outlook that is perfectly suitable for any environment, the back of the tablet portion is constructed with metallic aluminum that further gives the durability of the tablet. Among the package that ASUS included in the box is the tablet itself, the cover stand, detachable keyboard with touchpad, stylus, and USB C power adaptor, which is just nice in a package to start with. Weighted at 630 grams only (on the tablet), the ExpertBook B3 2022 is one of the lightweight in the 2 in 1 class and it is very easy to carry around, even if you include the cover and keyboard together attached and carry, it is less than 900 grams in total, placing it in a bag its fairly nice and convenient.

Ports and Charging

This is a very very simple detachable 2 in 1, the ExpertBook B3 came equipped with 1 USB C port for charging and data on the right side along with a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack. Below you will spot the magnetic pin for keyboard attachment. Over to the left you have the power and volume button and finally on top you get 2 microphone and a pair of speakers. On top of the screen you only got a single 720p webcam that is fairly usable on all your video calls and ZOOM needs.

Display and Audio

The ASUS ExpertBook B3 Detachable came with a 10.5 inch FullHD IPS touch screen with 60Hz refresh rate to start with. The screen can be place and work with either vertical and horizontal mode which quite thick bezel on all sides, however if we look at the positive side, the bezel is good as when we work with holding the tablet, it does not distract or blocking the screen when the user is operating and working with it. I personally dont mind the standard refresh rate due to the affordable pricing and the specification, nothing major as you still can playback and stream 1080P videos without stutters with Microsoft Edge and Windows Based ARM apps. Audio wise the tablet has a pair of speakers on top which deliver normal quality sound and music during testing, and there is nothing much to shout about. The touchscreen panel however does support multi-touch point for pinch, zoom and so on, a fairly standard specs for a Windows Laptop with touch capability.

Performance

Under the hood, the ASUS ExpertBook B3 Detachable came with the ARM based Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 Octa core processor, with 4 or 8GB of RAM, 128GB or eMMC storage and optional 4G modem depending on the variant that you choose, the rest of the specs remains the same such as touchscreen, screen size and WiFi specifications, which came with Dual Band AC antenna and bandwidth for better connection with your favorite wireless router. Over to the stylus, you can attach and detached from the slot on top where it charges and docks there, with palm rejection and its a pretty simple stylus to pair with automatically with Bluetooth, simple to use and does not require user manual to understand that. A full charge of the ASUS ExpertBook B3 Detachable will get you by average of 6 hours with Email, Social Media, Browsing and some short video streaming, while if you using just purely for work and your spreadsheets, you can get up to 8 hours with power saver turned on in Windows 11. Do take note that certain 32Bit Windows apps may not be compatible, but so far we test with Chromium ARM, GIMP 32bit, Steam 32bit, and Bluemail from Windows store all seems to worked fairly fast on launching, but be aware again that some may go slightly slower, especially some games not optimized, such as Streets of Rage 4. To compare with any modern budget laptop performance level in general, it is on par with the Mobile Intel Pentium N5000 series Processors that is compatible with the current Windows 11 OS and it’s latest business oriented hardware security enhanced features

The Keyboard cover that came with the tablet is very usable with its chiclet design making it great for typing and authoring for your everyday use, however I find the touchpad is abit hard to use because of the space is kinda small, however it still does support Windows precision drivers which include multi gesture on the touchpad.

Verdict and Conclusion

The ASUS ExpertBook B3 Detachable is an easy, no nonsense 2 in 1 laptop and tablet with a very simple objective that focuses just on what you need to use for light work, email, browsing, studies which uses low powered consumption processor and keeping things compact and small to be carried around wherever you are going with very good sRGB color accuracy. To me, with my work involving very light image editing, some scribbling with the stylus and blogging, this is one companion I definitely can use all day long keeping me busy and entertained.

With that we will give the ExpertBook B3 Detachable a 4 out of 5 stars rating for its portability, and good basic usage with good color accuracy, however Microsoft will still need to improve on it’s software compatibility and closely work with the third party developer to bridge the ARM apps gaps for Windows

Produt Review Final Rating

The ASUS ExpertBook B3 Detachable will be priced from RM2,099 for the 4GB RAM configuration and it is available on most Asus Dealers, System Integrator and Online stores.
