HUAWEI has been a known company that manufactures network equipment and end user devices to cater with its brand ecosystem for the consumers. But it is also quite a while since they launch a phone, the day has finally come and today we will look at nova 9, a phone that is newly unveil not too long ago that comes equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G SOC. Lets go thru the unboxing of the HUAWEI nova 9 that we have on hand now.

The HUAWEI nova 9 comes in a white color box. Upon unboxing you will get the following as below

  • nova 9 phone
  • USB A to C charging cable
  • 66w Fast Charger
  • Soft Case
  • SIM Ejector
  • Pre-applied screen protector installed on the screen of the phone
  • User Manual & Quick Start Guide

Do take note that nova 9 does not come with USB C to 3.5mm audio adaptor, however its pretty easy to get one at any of your favorite phone accessories shop, or if you have a current one lying around from any of the brand or generic ones, you can use it back as well with no issues. It is still comes with a surprise that HUAWEI still provides at least a charger for it’s consumers as some manufacturers stops to include charger in the box.

Color Choices

The nova 9 comes in two colors, Black and Starry Blue. The color that we got for the unboxing is the flagship Starry Blue color, which is has a very unique Blue with shiny all over the back of the phone with smooth textures, and shines when under the light. This is a lightweight phone with a weight of just 175 grams with slight curves on both sides of the display. Overall impression is good so far with a matte finish on top.

The Design, Look and Feel

The nova 9 weighs at 175 Grams, which is considered as a lightweight phone that is packed with reasonable hardware inside, it is fairly easy to hold and use with one hand, with good navigation coverage with one hand usage on a 7.7mm depth, making it slim as well. The nova 9 features a 6.57 inch Curved (both sides) OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate that makes it a joy when scrolling thru webpages, gaming and streaming. Using it under bright sunlight works fairly well .

Looking at the back of the phone you will spot an island of lenses consisting of one 108MP wide lens, one 8MP ultrawide lens, one 2MP depth lens and one 2MP lens with macro capability followed by a camera flash. Over to the front side, which is the main display there is one 32MP wide angle camera, perfect for those who likes to take a lot of selfies. All of the camera in the phone is able to capture wide angle images. Specifically over the rear camera you have a choice of video recording up to 4K resolution at 30FPS, while 1080P capture up to 60FPS with the aspect ratio options of 21:9 or 16:9 with Efficient Video Format options.

Over to the performance side, the nova 9 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G Octa Core SOC, with 256GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. At Such configuration this is a Mid to High tier class processor that ensures it handles the imaging capture and video recording capability with its surrounding competitions with good optimizations over multitasking, gaming and productivity. The 120Hz display will give you the responsiveness you need. To further immerse on the display, it supports up to 1 billion colors. On top of that you will also get a pleasant and reasonable audio experience with its bottom firing speakers.

Overall on my few days of impression with the nova 9, it is a phone that is suitable for those who wanted a device that is seeking for it’s VLogging and Multi-recording capabilities, High resolution image capture with multiple modes to select from and on it’s gaming performance with good productivity work case. At this point of writing we still don’t have the pricing yet, but looking at the specifications listed, likely it will be priced at less than RM1800. Stay tuned with the full review which we will be publishing it soon.
