Samsung is yet again release a series of phone to us, and this time it is the A Series lineup for the year 2023. To recap abit, the A series is part of Samsung’s budget to super mid ranger lineup that sits at affordability with some higher end models mainly focuses on what users need everytime they pick up the phone and use it. Its 2023 and Samsung yet again with its tradition, release their flagship lineup, the Galaxy S Series for 2023. This time around we will be going thru a simple unboxing and first impression of the Samsung Galaxy A54, one of the two models they recently launch together with the Galaxy A34.

Contents

The Galaxy A54 came in a slim, small white color box. Upon unboxing you will get the following as below. The packaging material is made of 100% eco friendly recycled materials but still holds everything in a slim tight package just nice.

  • The phone itself
  • USB C to C charging cable
  • SIM Ejector
  • User Manual/Quick Start Guide

As usual, no charger or soft case is included in the box since the starting from the Galaxy A53, however one can easily obtain a PD compatible charger that supports 25w and above for optimal fast charging and should be able to last you for the whole day.

Color Choices

The Samsung Galaxy A54 comes in four colors, Awesome Lime,  Awesome Graphite, Lavender, Awesome Violet and Awesome White. Most of the Samsung accessories are readily available via Samsung’s Online Website from cases, screen protectors, adaptors and companion connected devices such as the Galaxy Watch5 and Buds2 Pro which are highly recommended as a companion. Additionally, during the time of this writing, many third party accessories are widely available too. You can check all the details of the accessories HERE.

The one that we got for the first impression is the Awesome Lime, a slightly lighter green that is refreshing when looking at it, especially if you love something that is natured themed colored but subtle tone which still stands out along with same colors as well over the camera rings and the sides of the body, so no dual tone color there. While there is no aluminum armor as p[art of the A series, it is still sturdy as the overall material is base on good quality polycarbonate body with Gorrila Glass 5 protection for the display portion.

The Design, Look and Feel

The Galaxy A54 weighs 202 grams, which is heavier than last year`s Galaxy A53, but retains the same form factor that’s fun to hold. Carrying on the back part of some of the design cues of the Galaxy S23 series. Let’s talk about the screen. The 6. 4-inch Super AMOLED 120Hz display with an 83% screen-to-body ratio gives you a very visible screen area, easy touch scrolling with ease, and still achieves a peak brightness of 1000 nits. This is backed by protecting the display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which maintains IP67 dust and water resistance up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Looking at the back of the phone beside the cover display you will see an island of triplet cameras, consisting of a 50MP OIS wide angle camera, followed by 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro lens. This is a nice combination that gives what users needed when capturing images, combining OIS in the main camera which in return not needing to worry too much even if you shake a little bit during capture session. Over to the front selfie camera you will spot a generous 32MP wide angle camera which also features portrait that is highly appreciated for better pixel clarity with details in any environments. We snap some sample picture below with the Galaxy A54 with mixed shots in different areas.

Performance & Impressions

Hardware wise, the Galaxy A54 is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 1380 5nm SOC which carries the same clockspeed from the 1280 but provides better power usage efficiency and bumped internal graphics performance to better cater over newer apps and games, with up to 256GB UFS internal storage and 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM, which in return giving users the performance it needs as a formidable daily driver on multitasking, fast picture taking, multimedia centric and gaming needs coupled with the 120Hz display will give you the responsiveness you need. Furthermore, the top and bottom firing speakers provide a pleasant and clear aural experience.

All in all, in my few days of feeling with the Samsung Galaxy A54, it’s a phone primarily aimed at people who need all the latest features and up-to-date performance without paying too much, while you’ll still get a decent sized phone in your pocket and take it out for all your calls, multitasking, combined with a great camera setup and capable of gaming high frame rate with reasonable and acceptable performance, supported by good firmware and software updates for years to come. As for the price, it’s true that you’re paying a moderate price, and we still find it in the range based on specs, but it’s a device worth the investment. I will continue to experiment with this phone further in an upcoming in-depth review.
