Qualcomm presented its next premium smartphone chipset, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, during the Snapdragon Summit 2022. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform will set a new standard for connected computing by being intelligently developed with cutting-edge AI across the board to allow amazing experiences.
Below are the new features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
AI : Users may enjoy quicker natural language processing, multi-language translation, and enhanced AI camera functions thanks to an improved Qualcomm® Hexagon Processor. The Hexagon processor includes architecture enhancements such as micro tile inferencing and a larger tensor accelerator for improved AI performance. This is also the first Snapdragon mobile platform to support INT4, a new AI precision format with improved performance/watt for long-term AI inference. The most recent Qualcomm® Sensing Hub, which now has twin AI processors, provides intuitive experiences with unique wake phrases. Expect new features and tools from the Qualcomm® AI Stack, including the Qualcomm® AI Studio, to help developers create even more next-generation AI apps.
Camera : Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 automatically enhances photographs and videos in real time with semantic segmentation, using an AI neural network to make the camera contextually aware of faces, facial characteristics, hair, clothes, skies, and more, and optimises each detail independently to accommodate new image sensors. Sony Semiconductor Solutions was the first to create quad digital overlap HDR technology for Snapdragon. The first 200-megapixel image sensor designed for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Samsung ISOCELL HP3, will produce professional-quality photographs and movies. This is also the first Snapdragon to contain an AV1 codec, which allows for 8K HDR video playback at 60 frames per second.
Gaming : Ray tracing in real time that offers lifelike light, reflections, and illuminations to mobile games. The improved Qualcomm® AdrenoTM GPU provides up to 25% quicker performance, while the Qualcomm® KryoTM CPU provides up to 40% greater power efficiency, allowing users to reach champion-level performance while preserving battery life. With the world’s first mobile optimised support for Unreal Engine 5 Metahumans Framework on Snapdragon, gamers will be able to enjoy lifelike human characters in their games.
Connectivity : Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 leverages the power of AI to offer breakthrough 5G upload and download speeds, coverage, latency, and power efficiency, thanks to the Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System with Qualcomm® 5G AI Processor. This is the first Snapdragon platform to offer 5G+5G/4G Dual-SIM Dual-Active, which takes use of the power and flexibility of two 5G SIMs at the same time. This cutting-edge platform also includes the Qualcomm® FastConnectTM 7800 networking technology, which provides the lowest latency Wi-Fi 7 and dual Bluetooth® connectivity for long-term immersion. High Band Simultaneous Multi-Link delivers peak Wi-Fi 7 performance across the world, providing for seamless, blazing connections for streaming, gaming, and other activities.
Audio : Snapdragon Sound technology for premium and immersive music, calls, and gaming. It supports 48kHz lossless music streaming and spatial audio with dynamic head-tracking for complete surround-sound immersion. Gamers can stay in the moment with the lowest-ever latency of 48ms, which is enhanced by a built-in voice backchannel for crystal-clear communication to and from other players.
Security : Snapdragon Secure protects the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, providing the latest in isolation, cryptography, key management, attestation, all precisely tailored to secure users’ data and privacy. This premium level of protection restricts data exposure and exploitation on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices.
