If we all did remember correctly, OPPO released the Find X5 Pro not too long ago, and from our review we find it stellar on the camera specs, featuring the well know Mari SiliconX NPU which we thought only available on flagship phone. Well today we will dive in to the Reno8 Pro 5G
Do take note that under the Reno8 series, there is also a standard OPPO Reno8 (non Pro) which houses different hardware and technical specifications.
Unboxing
Upon unboxing you will get the following as below
- The OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G Phone
- USB A to C cable
- OPPO SuperVOOC 80W Power Adaptor
- Translucent Casing
- User Manual/Warranty Statement
Design
Closely looking at the OPPO Reno8 Pro, it looks slightly bulkier and tough at the same time. However it does look streamlined with the unibody design that in fact making it an impression of a one piece constructed device with smooth rounded edges which also makes the camera curved bump up smooth and much appreciated. Grip and hold on the device is good as usual, but if you wanted more protection, there is an included translucent casing.
As usual you have the volume button on the left, a power button on the right side, towards the bottom you have the loudspeaker, USB C port for charging and data, and a dual SIM tray slot. On the top you have the speakerphone which will be also used as a dual speaker combining the one below followed by the noise cancelling microphone.
The OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G is weighted at 183 grams which is a standard weight across most smartphones that we tested and found mostly in the market today, not too heavy, not too light, just comfortable for your all day usage and storing to your pocket or bag.
Display & Audio
Coming to the display, the OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G comes with a sizable 6.7 inch FHD display with Wide Color Gamut and it is able to display up to 1.07B of colors. Besides that it can maxed out upwards to 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling for all your gaming response enjoyment. Such fast response rate is surely getting popular with game developers slowly implementing it. This is further protected over with Gorilla Glass 5 and all displayed with AMOLED. The phone can peaked up to 950Nits boosted under outdoor bright environments. You can sure read and play long with the phone as it has blue light filter certified as well.
Over to the audio, it is fairly loud and clear, thanks to the inclusion of both front and bottom firing speakers running together, whether it is a movie or gaming, it does provide full stereo enjoyment for those that enjoy immersive audio experience in a phone.
Camera
The OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G rear camera setup consist of a 50MP SONY IMX766 sensor with PDAF, an 8MP Ultrawide sensor and a 2MP Macro Lens. While over the front you get a 32MP wide camera sensor.
During day time, no doubt the rear camera can do well without much of tinkering over the manual settings, the auto mode is nice enough to capture your day to day photo, and the images taken is sufficient to be edited or cropped. During night time captured photos can be good which the NPU with the AI does the job of identifying the surrounding and uses the surrounding low lights available to enhance the images with shadows and object captures. Over the front camera, the selfies looks good and does support wide angle as well
Below is a sample of the 4K 30FPS footage that we captured and uploaded, we still be able to see some stutters but we believe that can be fixed or enhanced in future software updates.
Performance and Benchmarks
As a mid to high tiered Smartphone, the Oppo Reno8 Pro 5G is well equipped with 5nm MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max 8 Core SOC with 8GB/12GB and starts with 256GB or 512GB of storage, which when combined is plenty powerful and reliable for a long time, especially with all your daily work task and gaming or just some simple editing tasks on it. Also this phone came with Android 12 and OPPO’s ColorOS 12.1 that brings in similar UI to their flagship Find X5 series such as flexible windows, kid mode, Split screen, Smart Sidebar with it’s cleaner UI.
Below is the benchmark score (for those who are interested with the scoring)
During our tests, we find that the phone may throttle when it heats up over 40 minutes of gaming sessions, but it does cool down quickly after that to it’s normal operating temperatures and even during the moment, the phone can still keep up reasonably well on switching apps and games. Recharging is pretty fast as well, from 50% to full takes less than an hour with the supplied SuperVOOC charger.
Gaming mix productivity wise, you are in quite good hands choosing this device, from Genshin Impact to Mobile Legends and returning back to your social media app can be switch back and fourth smoothly with very minor transition time between it.

Verdict and Conclusion
We can say that the OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G performs and features a combination of a close to a flagship camera phone setup with good amount of processing power within it that keeps you going with Battery Health Engine that charges fast and pick up whenever you need it, however it is still lacking OIS sensor which is a minor downside, and certain camera recording and night capture features that OPPO still can fix and improve on it. During the whole course of review, we find it highly suitable for those who wanted a good performance phone with camera setup that you can just capture with quality, upload or edit fast and quick without much compromise.
The OPPO Reno8 Pro 5G is now available nationwide starting from RM3499 and you can purchase it HERE
