Samsung has announced the global launch of its 13-inch Color E-Paper (EM13DX), the world’s first commercial display built with a bio-resin housing derived from phytoplankton. The ultra-slim, paper-like display expands Samsung’s Color E-Paper lineup and offers businesses a low-power alternative to traditional printed signage.

Designed for shelves, counters and compact spaces, the 13-inch model delivers a 1,600 x 1,200 resolution in a 4:3 aspect ratio — similar in size to A4 paper. Using advanced digital ink technology, it maintains static images at zero watts power, consuming energy only when content is updated.

Paper-Like Display, Flexible Installation

Weighing just 0.9kg with a built-in rechargeable battery, the 17.9mm-thin display supports USB Type-C and flexible mounting options, enabling cable-free deployment. Samsung’s enhanced color imaging algorithm improves gradation and contour detail, delivering vivid, poster-like visuals for seamless transition from print to digital signage.

Pioneering Bio-Based Materials

The housing incorporates 10% phytoplankton-based bio-resin and 45% recycled plastic, independently verified by UL. The innovation replaces part of the conventional petroleum-based plastics used in displays and can reduce manufacturing carbon emissions by over 40%. Packaging is made entirely from paper, including cushioning and accessory boxes.

Smart Content Management

The display supports local updates via the Samsung E-Paper App (Android and iOS) and remote management through Samsung VXT, Samsung’s cloud-based content platform. Teams can manage hardware settings, troubleshoot devices, and deploy optimized content remotely, including preview tools to ensure accurate color output before publishing.

Expanding the Color E-Paper Portfolio

Alongside the 13-inch launch, Samsung will preview a 20-inch model at ISE 2026 in Barcelona, expanding beyond its existing 32-inch option to meet diverse business needs.

Samsung continues to lead the global digital signage market, holding a 36.2% market share by volume in Q3 2025 and maintaining its 17-year leadership in commercial displays.
