Taobao Malaysia has announced plans to roll out a Bahasa Malaysia language interface by June 2025, enhancing accessibility for local users as the platform continues to grow in popularity both globally and in Malaysia.

The update comes amid a surge in international downloads, with Taobao recently becoming the second-most downloaded shopping app in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., and claiming the top spot in France. In Malaysia, it currently ranks second on the iOS shopping app chart, underscoring strong local engagement.

“Our upcoming Bahasa Malaysia interface represents a major step in Taobao’s localisation journey,” said Jess Lew, Country Head of Taobao Malaysia. “It reflects our commitment to making online shopping more accessible and seamless for every Malaysian user.”

The Malay-language interface follows Taobao’s earlier rollout of an English version for Malaysian users in September 2024. That update, powered by AI-driven translation, made it easier for shoppers to explore Taobao’s vast product range, featuring prices in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), simplified navigation, and bilingual customer support in English and Chinese.

With this next step, users will soon be able to shop in Bahasa Malaysia, opening up the platform to a wider local audience and supporting cross-border e-commerce adoption.

Taobao is supported by Antom for payments and Cainiao for logistics, ensuring smooth transactions and reliable deliveries. Malaysian shoppers can pay via credit/debit cards, online banking, e-wallets, or instalment plans, with in-app order tracking for full transparency.

The Taobao app is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. For more information and updates, follow Taobao Malaysia on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X, or log in to the app.
