Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat En Fahmi Fadzil, emphasized the importance of a strong local partnership ecosystem in driving sustainable growth during his keynote address at the Huawei Malaysia Supplier Ecosystem Convention 2024. The event highlighted the crucial role of deep collaboration between companies and their suppliers in fostering advancements in information and communications technology (ICT).

Commending Huawei Malaysia for its commitment to local partnerships, Minister Fahmi praised the company’s efforts to exclusively engage with Malaysian suppliers, including Bumiputera-owned businesses. He noted, “A robust local partner ecosystem is essential for sustainable development. Huawei’s dedication to working with 100% local companies reflects a profound understanding of the value of these partnerships.”

The Minister underscored the growing significance of the digital economy in Malaysia’s national growth, which accounted for over 23% of the GDP in 2023, with expectations to reach 25.5% by 2025. He also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships, particularly in education and skills development, as vital components of the digital economy ecosystem.

He added that Malaysia’s near-universal 4G coverage, high internet usage, and mobile phone ownership rates have set the stage for the rollout of the country’s second 5G network. Fahmi emphasized that the dual network 5G model aligns with the MADANI Government’s commitment to good governance by promoting competition in the telecommunications sector and ensuring accessible, high-quality 5G services.

Huawei Malaysia CEO, Mr. Simon Sun, expressed gratitude towards the company’s local suppliers for their support during the pandemic, which ensured timely delivery of products and services. Reaffirming Huawei’s commitment to local partnerships, he stated, “We firmly believe in our slogan, ‘In Malaysia, for Malaysia,’ and we are proud to rely entirely on local suppliers.”

Simon Sun also highlighted Huawei’s focus on cultivating digital talent in Malaysia, noting that the company has invested RM20 million in talent development over the past three years.

The convention, themed “Together Towards a Sustainable and Digital Malaysia,” brought together over 500 key industry players, stakeholders, and experts to exchange innovative ideas and expertise across critical ICT domains. Fifty-eight awards were presented to local partners and suppliers in recognition of their excellence, including companies like Jalur Milenium Sdn Bhd and MTK Communication Sdn Bhd.
