Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in advanced memory technology, has announced the sampling of its groundbreaking 256GB SD Express microSD card and the commencement of mass production for its 1TB UHS-1 microSD card. These innovations mark a significant leap forward in memory solutions tailored for the future of mobile computing and on-device AI applications.

High-Speed SD Express microSD Card: Industry First

Samsung has introduced an industry-first high-performance microSD card based on the SD Express interface, achieving speeds of up to 800 megabytes per second (MB/s) for sequential read operations. This breakthrough was achieved through collaboration with a customer to create a custom product.

Featuring a low-power design and firmware technology optimized for performance and thermal management, Samsung’s SD Express microSD card offers SSD-like performance in a compact form factor. With sequential read speeds reaching up to 800MB/s, this microSD card outpaces traditional UHS-1 memory cards by more than four times, enabling enhanced computing experiences across various applications, including PCs and mobile devices.

1TB UHS-1 microSD Card: Cutting-Edge Capacity

Samsung’s new 1TB microSD card packs eight layers of the company’s latest 1-terabit (Tb) V-NAND technology into a microSD form factor. This groundbreaking design delivers high-capacity storage previously only achievable in SSDs. The card undergoes rigorous testing to ensure reliability in challenging environments, with features such as water protection, extreme temperature resilience, drop-proof design, wear-out protection, as well as X-ray and magnetic protection.

Availability

The 256GB SD Express microSD card will be available for purchase later this year, while the 1TB UHS-1 microSD card is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of this year.

Samsung’s latest microSD card innovations signify a significant advancement in memory solutions, catering to the evolving needs of mobile computing and on-device AI applications. For more information, visit Samsung’s Memory Storage page.
