HONOR has officially confirmed its plans to launch its first foldable flip smartphone later this year, marking the brand’s entry into the premium market segment. George Zhao, the CEO of HONOR Device Co Ltd, revealed in an interview with CNBC at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 that the device is currently undergoing its final stage of internal testing.

The decision to venture into the foldable flip phone market aligns with HONOR’s strategic goal of competing with major players in the technology industry. Zhao expressed optimism about the future of foldable devices, stating, “This year we are preparing for the flip phone launch. Now, we are internally in the final stage. We are very positive about foldables for the future.”

This announcement comes on the heels of HONOR’s recent launch of its latest foldable phone, the HONOR Magic V2, at MWC 2024. The Magic V2 serves as the successor to the HONOR Magic Vs and was accompanied by the debut of the exclusive Porsche Design edition, the HONOR Magic V2 RSR, at the event.

Furthermore, Zhao disclosed that HONOR is actively developing its own smart ring, highlighting the company’s commitment to health-related technology. “Internally, we have this kind of solution, and now we are working on that part, so in the future you can have the HONOR ring,” he remarked.

With these upcoming releases, HONOR aims to expand its product portfolio and establish itself as a key player in both the premium smartphone and health-monitoring device markets.
