The Kingston Fury Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is one of the top ranked NVME drives (although it is not the fastest) when it comes to the speed or even the reliability that is pretty much caters for enthusiast and gamers segment, answering the requirements of most games and applications that requires a certain degree of reliabilities in read and writes.

While we enter this reviews in certain details, do take note there is 2 variant, the one that we will reviewing is the low profile heat spreader version which suits all form factors and devices including laptops and consoles while the one with the heatsink is more cater to PC and certain consoles such as the PS5.

Features & Design

The Kingston Fury Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD comes in a very simple-looking retail box, comparable to its previous offering, the NV2 series. The drive has dimensions of 22mm x 80mm x 2.2mm (2280) and weighs 7 grams. Such weight is completely adequate for easy installation on any PC, laptop, or console, however it should be noted that the package does not include a heatsink, allowing end customers to obtain extra tailored cooling solutions on their own. Because this is a PCIe 4.0 drive, you may install it over any PCIe 4.0 confirmed slots, and Kingston rated it at up to 7,300MB/s read and 7,000MB/s write, which is not the fastest, but fast enough.

Test System & Benchmarking Performance

We will be using the following as our test setup

ProcessorAMD Ryzen 7 7700X
MemoryKingston Fury DDR5 (24GB X2) 7200MT/s
MotherboardASRock X670 Lightning Pro RS
GraphicsAMD Radeon 7700 XT (16GB)
Storage (Boot)WD SN750SE 500GB PCIe 4×4
StorageKingston Fury Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
StorageKingston NV2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (1TB)
Storage (Network)WD MYCLOUD 2TB

The findings we acquired from our test system are shown above, and all of the results and performance are within expectations, therefore we are really pleased with it. During the test, it runs heated, but only up to 55 degrees Celsius. While this is not the fastest drive on the market, it meets or exceeds the minimal read and write requirements for a compliant PCIe 4.0 SSD drive, therefore it is very smooth, quick, and snappy while copying and reading information.

Verdict & Conclusion

If you need something fast with an acceptable sequential read and write, and it is also quite stable if you are using it for general storage and gaming, then this should be on your list of things to get and upgrade on your NVMe storage. If you are looking for a drive that is reliable for rendering video, this is another good reason to get this SSD. Aside from that, I am happy with the performance in terms of pricing, technical outcomes, and value. Again, at the time of writing, SSD prices have been rising across the board, but the present price level remains cheap in comparison to many rival models on the market.
