Samsung Malaysia Electronics has teamed with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to launch a collaborative initiative that would improve higher education and skill development in Malaysia. This program, in conjunction with Polytechnic Ungku Omar (PUO) in Ipoh, intends to integrate Samsung’s cutting-edge technical expertise and knowledge into the education syllabus, addressing important industry demands and equipping graduates with the skills needed for success.
“This collaboration between Samsung, MOHE, and PUO is a testament to our shared commitment to fostering a competent and skilled workforce that will drive Malaysia’s technological advancement and economic growth,” said Denny Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics. “By equipping our graduates with industry-relevant skills, we are ensuring that they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the future workforce.”
The collaboration program is driven by four key objectives:
- Fostering Business Opportunities: To establish strong business synergies between Samsung and MOHE, paving the way for future collaborations and partnerships.
- Nurturing Skilled Graduates: To address the growing demand for skilled graduates in the after-sales service sector, equipping them with the necessary competencies to excel in the industry.
- Enhancing Service Awareness and Branding: To elevate Samsung’s after-sales service reputation by producing highly trained graduates who can deliver exceptional customer experiences.
- Promoting Employment: To encourage graduates to pursue employment opportunities with Samsung further enriching their practical experience and expanding their career prospects.
The collaborative program’s product scope and syllabus will include Samsung’s consumer electronics items, such as televisions, air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators. To kick-start this program, Samsung will equip PUO with training units, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and practical skill development. With the goal of achieving excellence, the Polytechnic has prepared a comprehensive plan with measurable milestones that will be assessed on a regular basis from 2023 to 2030.
The Ministry of Higher Education, through the Department of Polytechnic Education and Community Colleges (JPPKK), is responsible for ensuring that the country’s semi-professional and mid-level executive labor needs are met in an integrated way in accordance with industry expectations. This collaboration benefits all parties involved: Samsung gains access to a pool of skilled graduates, MOHE strengthens its commitment to providing quality education, and PUO graduates gain valuable industry experience. Additionally, 3,000 industrial workers will be able to participate in reskilling and upskilling training as a starting point for learning specific fields through flexible and portable courses. This demonstrates a shared vision for influencing Malaysia’s workforce’s future.
The training program will begin in January 2024, marking a significant step toward improving higher education quality and equipping graduates with industry-relevant skills.
