HONOR launched its HONOR Magic Moments Awards 2023 in April 2023, bringing together artists from all over the world in search of the finest inventiveness in HONOR’s smartphone photography. With entries closing in August, international judges spent months searching for images worthy of being named winners. In addition to the six worldwide section categories, Malaysian photographers were motivated to enter the national awards, entitled #MagicMomentsofMalaysia, to capture the greatest depiction of our country via the lens of HONOR’s very own smartphone camera.

Photographer of The Year: Muhd Fuad

Muhd Fuad, Malaysia’s photographic master, won Photographer of the Year for the second year in a row. Fuad’s extraordinary abilities shined through as he travelled into Sarawak, utilizing the HONOR Magic5 Pro to capture Borneo’s cultural diversity through the eyes of a Melanau child. This victory not only earned Fuad the big prize of RM 10,000, but it also reinforced his standing as a top-tier talent in Art, Culture, and Heritage photography.

Master of Photography: Kenji Ooi and Yusuf Madi

Kenji Ooi and Yusuf Madi were named Master of Photography, with each getting RM 5,000 as a prize for their great work. Ooi’s breathtaking image highlighted Malaysia’s famed quartet of towers: the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, Menara TM, and TRX, accentuating the country’s architectural marvels. Madi’s lens, on the other hand, reached the depths of the Sarawak bush, catching a guardian amidst the natural glow of the forest.
