While ASUS focuses on gaming and professional oriented devices , they never forget the essential needs towards the student and mass category that only solely focus on getting the work done
Today, we will look at the ASUS BR1102F, a laptop mainly for student and those who needs one for all your basic tasks done.
Who is this for ?
Students are the primary target, but it is also suitable for young age workforce that started to venture into their career adventures, university and college students alike, without spending too much money but still gets most of your daily work done.
Design, Keyboard & Ports Accessibility
The very base design of the BR1102F is very much following their previous BR model, but as a budgeted model, ASUS further invested in some tough elements to it. The choice of using the all round bumper rubber reinforces the sides of the laptop body, and able to take a few minor drops or hits with US military-grade MIL-STD-810H durability and reliability. The hinge is a sturdy and strong one too, with multiple usage functionality, it is a tablet, a fully functional laptop that can be used as a all rounder note taking, work tasking and basic draw or scribbling with the included stylus that is kept in the garaged slot. The overall outlook has some hard, rough plastic design to it making it easy to grip, take around, and carry without much worries. All of these is just weighted under 1.5KG which is pretty understandable when taking consideration over the tough looking design and build.
With a few screws you can open up the below and it is revealed that at least user serviceable parts are from NVME SSD, Keyboard and Batteries, this is also good for schools and small companies where their IT technicians can easily change parts when it comes to upgrades or replacements, to an extent even the panel for those who are more knowledgeable.
Now to the ports, this is quite plentiful as a budgeted laptop, a built in fingerprint reader is located at the same power button which is fully compatible with Windows Hello. the left side USB 3.2 Type C port serve as both data and also it is your power port to charge the BR1102F, delivering 45w of PD charging which can bring up to full charge in less than 2.5 hours in average. The stylus area is also located on the left should you need to write something over the 11.6 inch LCD display.
Keyboard wise, this is suffice for daily use with just reasonable but tad a bit short travel over keypresses however it is built quite nicely with little wiggles and one could just get used to it after a few rounds typing it with the accompanied touchpad for navigation which is also Windows Precision Drivers compatible for multi touch gesture.
Two 720P webcam is also included for basic video conferencing that is suffice for much needed Zoom calls, and especially useful whether you are using the webcam in laptop mode, or tablet mode, the options are there for the user.
Display & Audio
The ASUS BR1102F display is not design to be stellar, but to be on the practical size and resolution, while I do prefer a 1080P screen, a 1366 x 768 resolution display with multi touch is still reasonable justifying on the cost and also the abundance when it comes to easy to find replacement almost everywhere. While peak brightness can only go up to 250nits, it is sufficient for indoor, classes and office use, where it is properly lit, since this is more focuses for schools, colleges, small offices, and university. Well, at least your video streaming can still display in HD mode and should you need more screens, there is an HDMI port that allows it to extend towards another monitor.
The audio wont pack some heavy metal bass punch, but it is much towards the clarity for audio communications essentials provided by DiRAC Audio along with array microphone for better speech delivery. Should you need more privacy or better audio experience, the combo 3.5mm audio jack allows for your own headphones to be plugged in, or any audio device, including TWS and speakers with Bluetooth connection.
Performance & Experience
Getting towards the performance, the ASUS BR1102F features power efficient Intel N100 Quad Core Processor with 8GB of DDR4 Single Channel RAM, 128GB Internal UFS storage and Intel Integrated UHD Graphics. Again, this is not your gaming laptop, it was meant to there to tasked to last for about 6 hours over mix of your streaming, music listening, some word processing and minor image editing.
You still can play some games with it, indie and simple games like Streets Of Rage on Steam will work without hiccups blazing 60FPS and the screen does fit there with such games, even Minecraft Education can run which is a young student’s favorite on unleashing their creativity in building their own virtual world in blocks. There is no Microsoft Office license included but there are plenty of free open source Office apps available and if you are out of storage, you still can expand it with an additional NVME SSD. Only a few ASUS apps were included in the laptop like MyASUS, DIRAC app, System Diagnostics just to name a few, and this is to keep the background running process as low as possible with the available limited RAM.
