At its For Those Who Dare virtual launch event today, ASUS (ROG) unveiled the all-new ROG Phone 7 range of gaming smartphones.
The ROG Phone 7 series, which comprises the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate models, is the newest stage in the high-performance evolution of the world’s finest gaming phone. This futuristic-looking phone, with a new two-tone design, combines the game-winning power of the flagship Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform with the advanced GameCool 7 thermal system and special ROG tuning to deliver a truly breathtaking mobile gaming experience and impressively low power consumption. The groundbreaking new rapid-cycle vapour chamber architecture boosts heat dissipation efficiency by up to 168%, allowing the ROG Phone 7 series to run games at full speed while maintaining low temperatures.
To make ROG Phone 7 a powerful and portable theater, we boosted the effective volume of the ROG Phone 7 series’ speakers by 50% and calibrated the system in collaboration with audio specialists Dirac. When the new AeroActive Cooler 7 attachment, which houses a powerful subwoofer, is linked to the ROG Phone 7 series, it now offers excellent 2.1-channel sound.
Furthermore, the peak brightness of the magnificent 165 Hz Samsung AMOLED display has grown dramatically compared to the previous generation. The ROG Phone 7 series also has the famed AI-generated in-game effects, customisable AirTrigger haptic buttons, and ongoing game-setting changes from the ROG Gaming team, all of which epitomise the basic ethos of ROG, to put the player first!
The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate edition also includes the distinctive ROG Vision matrix display on the back, and the GameCool 7 cooling technology is upgraded with the groundbreaking AeroActive Portal.
No-compromise performance
The ROG Phone 7 series was designed without the flagship 3.2 GHz Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, which is 15% faster and 15% more energy-efficient than the prior iteration. It comes with up to 16 GB of 8,533 Mbps LPDDR5X RAM and a 512 GB UFS 4.0 ROM, which is twice as fast as UFS 3.0. It’s equipped for Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) with Qualcomm® FastConnect 7800, which supports ultra-fast 320 MHz channels and Multi-Link operation for game-changing latency performance.
The ROG Phone 7 offers real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing with Snapdragon Elite Gaming. This means that, for supported games, players may enjoy hyper-realistic reflections, especially on water and metal surfaces, which offer a new level to the gaming experience.
All of this capability is augmented by the unrivalled Armoury Crate performance manager, which provides players with unparalleled control over performance and tuning parameters.
The ROG Phone 7 series has a 165 Hz Samsung AMOLED display with a 720 Hz touch-sampling rate and a Delta E 1 colour accuracy to keep up with the activity. We’ve also boosted the brightness to 1,500 nits for better outdoor visibility. The stunning images have been fine-tuned in partnership with premier visual-processing business Pixelworks® to achieve world-class colour accuracy. It’s an unrivalled exhibition.
Furthermore, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate has ROG Vision, a one-of-a-kind matrix colour display on the phone’s back that epitomises the ROG brand’s bold innovation. This innovative feature may display stunning animations that are triggered by system events such as charging status, incoming calls, X Mode activation, and others. Gamers may also build their own personalised animations, adding to the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate’s individuality. ROG Vision allows gamers to show their genuine style while also embracing the full potential of this cutting-edge technology.
Power efficiency
To reduce power consumption without sacrificing performance, the ROG Phone 7 series takes use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform’s 15% boost in power efficiency, which is supplemented with the finest GameCool 7 thermal technology to cool the CPU from all angles. This is accomplished by a three-pronged method. The Boron Nitride (BN) thermal compound on one side of the CPU decreases throttling during brief sessions. The larger vapour chamber and graphite sheets on the other side of the CPU handle mid-length sessions. This effectively dissipates the heat created by the SoC, resulting in a significant improvement in both game performance and battery longevity. When the AeroActive Portal is enabled, the thermal efficiency of the phone can increase by up to 20%.
There are also six liquid-return lines that serve as highways for water to go back to the SoC in preparation for the next heat cycle. The ROG Phone 7’s thermally efficient graphite sheets have also been increased in size and contoured to maximise heat transmission from the mainboard and RF board.
Finally, the AeroActive Cooler 7 includes a built-in thermoelectric Peltier cooler as well as an upgraded fan with additional blades for increased back pressure. The groundbreaking DualCool design guarantees that as the Peltier cooler cools the back of the phone, cooling air is simultaneously channelled over the screen for optimal cooling efficiency.
Gaming Performance
The dual front-firing 12 x 16 mm speakers, which have 50% more effective volume than before, are supported by the five-magnet, super-linear 13 x 38 mm sub-woofer in the AeroActive 7 cooler, which increases bass level by 77% for unrivalled 2.1 sound in games or movies when the cooler is attached. Fine-tuning with Dirac’s audio professionals delivers unrivalled sound quality.
From its 3.5 mm headphone connector to its Dirac Virtuo For Headphone theatre-like multidimensional sound, the ROG Phone 7 series offers all the technology for all the sound. New software features significantly improve the game experience. With a pop-up message, X Sense assists players in detecting critical onscreen occurrences, such as when a vital new item appears on the map or an adversary is coming. If a player defeats numerous opponents in a single maneuver, X Sense adds visual elements to the celebration. X Capture is an AI programme that automatically records notable fighting situations, such as defeating an adversary or winning the match.
The acclaimed AirTrigger ultrasonic controls provide players with unparalleled fingertip control over their games, providing a console-like experience. They are compatible with a broad range of motions, such as Dual Action, Press and Lift, and Gyroscope Aiming. There are also ten motion controllers and an X-axis linear motor that delivers intense haptic feedback, immersing players in the action. It also activates the fantastic Vibration Mapping function, which improves the touch experience by giving configurable haptic feedback for simulated on-screen buttons.
