Might look the same, but not really

Its 2023 and Samsung yet again with its tradition, release their flagship lineup, the Galaxy S Series for 2023. With that said, Samsung reveals a brand new refresh with the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra. Specifically for this unboxing we will be focusing on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is the highest end of the S23 series with improvement and upgrades from its last generation S22 Ultra.

Contents

The Galaxy S23 Ultra comes in a slim and tall black color box. Upon unboxing you will get the following as below. The packaging material is made of 100% eco friendly recycled materials but still holds everything in a slim package just nice.

  • The phone itself
  • USB C to C charging cable
  • SIM Ejector
  • User Manual/Quick Start Guide

As usual, no charger or soft case is included in the box since the start from the S21 series, however one can easily obtain a Qualcomm or PD compatible charger that supports 45w and above for optimal fast charging and should be able to last you for the whole day.

Color Choices

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes in four colors, Phantom Black, Green, Lavender and Cream. Most of the accessories are readily available via Samsung’s Online Website from cases, screen protectors, adaptors and companion connected devices such as the Galaxy Watch5 and Buds2 Pro which are highly recommended as a companion. You can check all the details of the accessories HERE

The one that we got for the first impression is the Lavender color, which is one of the most favorite color and preferred choice who wanted something that looks calm and brings in a light purple hue to it brings in natural colors, polished metal on the sides which is sleek looking and strong with reinforced armor aluminum frame.

The Design, Look and Feel

The Galaxy S23 Ultra weighs in at 234 Grams, which is slightly heavier over last year’s model, but still, it retains the very same form factor with toughness and retains good holding ratio on the hands despite it is indeed classed as a Phablet. When focus on the screen, you get the 6.8 inch AMOLED 2X screen in its glorious 90% screen to body ratio giving it a large viewable screen estate that also can be used for your note taking with the accompanied SPen Stylus included in the phone. This is further backed by the protection of the display with Corning Gorrila Glass Victus 2, a new generation of the glass protection series which gives all the toughness needed in this beauty.

Looking at the back of the phone beside the cover display you will see an island of quad cameras, but the highlight of the rear camera is Samsung’s newest ISOCELL HP2 sensor which is capable of capturing up to 200MP images with each of them handling Wide mode and Ultrawide lens followed by the camera flash with OIS, Laser AF and PDAF. Over to the front display side you will spot a 12MP wide angle camera which also features HDR capability which looks similar to the last year’s selfie module. We snap some sample picture below with the Galaxy S23 Ultra with mixed of day and night shots.

Performance & Impressions

Hardware wise, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy (running at customised higher clockspeed), with up to 1TB UFS 4 internal storage and 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, which sets the S23 Ultra speed slightly faster and higher compared with any top of the line flagship smartphones, which is definitely optimal and lightning fast when it comes to multitasking. The 120Hz display will give you the responsiveness you need. On top of that you will get a pleasant and loud audio experience with its top & bottom firing speaker.

Overall on my few days of impression with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, it is a phone that still retained its form factor and size but upgraded its camera and most of the internal specification hardware to keep the device long lasting. Not to mention with the SPen in it and the large screen, this is considered as one of the future proof device that you can carry with you backed by Samsung’s long term firmware and Android versions upgrade. From the price point perspective, it cant be denied that you are paying for a pricey device, but it is certain that you are enjoying one of the premium features of the phone with much more to explore and capture your moments with. I will be continuing on experiencing this phone further on an in-depth review coming soon
