Sony Booth Highlights at CES 2023

STAR SPHERE – STAR SPHERE is a project to bring space closer to everyone and to explore “space viewpoints” to offer a chance to think about the global environment and societal challenges. On January 3, 2023 (PST), a remote controlled nano-satellite “EYE” equipped with a camera capable of filming from space was launched. Sony will display the “Place Shooting Lab,” an experimental simulator that suggests a “space” for experience shooting from space that STAR SPHERE wants to offer in the future, as well as a mock-up of a nano-satellite outfitted with Sony camera equipment.

Technology for Creators – Sony supports a wide range of production activities in order to connect with diverse communities, ranging from top creators to aspiring artists. The VENICE 2 digital cinema camera, the full-frame mirrorless camera Alpha series, the VLOGCAM series, the professional drone Airpeak, Xperia smartphones, and the Creators’ Cloud, a cloud-based media creation platform are all on display at this stand. Furthermore, Sony will provide professional and general creators high-quality sound content production via microphones and headphones.

Virtual Fan Engagement– Sony is doing a PoC (proof of concept) with Manchester City of the English Premier League, with the goal of realising the next generation of online fan communities and engagement through the merging of physical and virtual to excite and engage both new and existing sports fans. Visitors to the booth may interact with metaverse material as if they were in the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City’s virtual home. Followers may express their sentiments and enthusiasm for the team by designing their own personalised avatars on their cellphones and, in the future, communicate with millions of fans across the world, as well as use numerous services to boost engagement.

New Sports Fan Experiences Created from Live Sports Data – This exhibit showcases projects connected to emerging data-driven sports fan experiences, bringing visitors through the path of sports data from data collecting on the field to developing virtual content in real-time and presenting it to fans on multiple platforms. Multiple technologies from Sony Group firms Hawk-Eye Innovations (“Hawk-Eye”), Beyond Sports, and Pulselive will demonstrate Sony’s sports businesses’ capacity to completely transform how we record, display, deliver, and create interactive live-action data for fans.

Portable Volumetric Capture – This display features a working prototype of a revolutionary technology that can capture and broadcast animated 3D reconstructions of people, objects, and places in any location with low latency. The system just requires seven sensors, allowing it to be swiftly set up anywhere and fulfil the demand for live 3D video dissemination. Through tablets and Sony’s Spatial Reality Displays, guests may see a 360-degree perspective of Manchester City players and the spectators in a 3D metaverse setting.

Spatial Reality Display: New Prototype with a Large 27-inch Screen – a 27″ prototype of the Spatial Reality Display (SR Display), which reproduces the real environment with 3D spatial visuals. Because of the bigger screen format, medical pictures and commercial designs may be represented more realistically. The SR Display will be utilised at the exhibit to present 3D computer graphics information with applications in numerous disciplines, such as point cloud data used in VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality), as well as architecture and computer-aided design (CAD), in a virtual world. Furthermore, multi-view video generated by Hawk-live Eye’s sports data and virtual characters may now be replicated on the SR Display as a new type of entertainment.

Previsualization Powered by “mocopi” – Sony’s mobile motion capture device “mocopi,” which allows producers to assess camerawork and character locations with VFX* editing during the pre-production stage, will be used to demonstrate previsualization technology. On the viewing monitor, a CG model is displayed that is synced in real time with the movement of a performance figure wearing the “mocopi” gadget. This technology helps to simplify the production workflow by allowing artists to mimic production at an early stage, therefore boosting the quality of their work.

PlayStation®VR2 and PlayStation®5 – Sony will demonstrate PlayStation®VR2 (PS VR2), the next-generation virtual reality headset for PlayStation®5 (PS5TM) that delivers an immersive gaming experience like no other. PS VR2 includes major features such as headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D Audio, and adaptive triggers, as well as haptic feedback from the PS VR2 SenseTM Controller that are enabled by PS VR2 Sense Technology. Select PS VR2 and PS5 titles, as well as PS5 accessories, will be available for testing at the booth.

Sony Honda Mobility – A new prototype vehicle will be exhibited from Sony Honda Mobility, whose purpose is to “Move people, through the pursuit of innovation with diverse inspirations”
