The industry’s first certification for smart home energy management systems (SHEMS).
Samsung’s efforts to enhance and grow SmartThings Energy have resulted in the EPA awarding Samsung the industry’s first mass-market Smart Home Energy Management Systems (SHEMS) certification. The accreditation acknowledges smart home appliances and services that manage and automate connected devices to assist users obtain insights into their energy consumption, encouraging energy-saving behaviour, lowering costs, and facilitating demand response techniques that reduce grid stress.
The EPA has also given 260 ENERGY STAR® certifications to basic model Samsung home appliances, including 43 “Most Efficient” designations. With more than a decade of ENERGY STAR award leadership, Samsung is a rare recipient of the coveted ENERGY STAR Corporate Commitment Award.
Making Net Zero Homes a Reality – Providing Households with the Highest Level of Energy Efficiency
Samsung has introduced the Smart City Project, the next phase of its net zero home programme, to let more people enjoy energy independence at home. The Smart City Project, in collaboration with Sterling Ranch and its long-term technology partner Siemens, will help build Sterling Ranch as a master-planned sustainable housing complex meant to accommodate 30,000 people in Littleton, Colorado.
SmartThings Energy will be the primary interactive app for homeowners to monitor data, with Samsung appliances providing residents with real-time insights into their energy, water, and natural gas consumption. Solar panels and residential batteries will generate and store energy across the town, while energy-efficient appliances will cut power use and monitor water use to conserve resources. Samsung technologies, in collaboration with Siemens smart infrastructure solutions and Resideo Technologies smart home and energy optimization solutions, will make it easier for Sterling Ranch inhabitants to live a net-zero lifestyle.
Samsung’s involvement with Resideo goes beyond the Smart City Project. Samsung and Resideo are investigating the possibility of integrating Samsung appliances with Resideo’s smart grid technology to link customers with energy management programmes in California and Texas. This effort might help make more towns smart-grid ready in the future by increasing Resideo’s best-in-class demand response service and maximising SmartThings Energy’s savings.
Using ‘Less Microfiber’ Technology to Combat Microplastics
While decreasing the effect of gadgets and dwellings is critical to establishing a sustainable future, other obvious and present threats to the environment need our attention. For over a year, Samsung and Patagonia have collaborated to solve the issue of microplastics shedding during the laundry process and damaging oceans and other bodies of water.
That partnership resulted in Samsung’s new Less Microfiber Cycle and Filter. The Less Microfiber Cycle, a game changer in the battle against microplastics, reduces microplastic emissions by up to 54%. The cycle is already available in Europe and will soon be accessible in Korea and the United States.
Samsung and Patagonia’s newly created washing machine filter, like the Less Microfiber Cycle, has the potential to have a substantial influence on the health of aquatic environments. The Less Microfiber Filter lowers microplastic emissions by keeping them from leaking into the ocean during wash cycles. It will be accessible in certain Samsung washing machines in Europe beginning in the second half of 2023, and it may also be purchased separately and applied to any brand of washer on the market.
Samsung aspires to pave the way to a more sustainable future via strong collaboration, technical advances, and a dedication to being the world’s most energy-efficient appliance brand. Visit Samsung.com to discover more about the eco-friendly technologies Samsung will be presenting at CES 2023.
