• Shoppers enjoyed more savings with over 23 million vouchers claimed

New local sellers on Shopee concluded the holiday shopping season with a 12 times sales increase during the 12.12 Birthday Sale peak day compared to an average day. With more than 23 million vouchers used on 12 December, customers were able to save more by taking advantage of the finest offers from brands and sellers.

The top three product categories on 12 December were mobile and accessories, home & living, and health & beauty. As Malaysians got ready for 2023, the most popular search terms included dress, kasut perempuan, blouse, baju kurung, and powerbank.

Shopee saw an increase in orders within the first two hours of December 12 that was eight times more than on a typical day. Johor Bahru, Kinta, Timur Laut, and Kuantan had the biggest number of orders during the 12.12 Birthday Sale campaign, although other cities in Malaysia outside the Klang Valley area also emerged as top cities.

Additionally, top 100 local sellers saw an increase in sales of 8 times on December 12 compared to normal days. Top-performing regional retailers include Tot.Retail & Wholesale, Momo House, Hollywood MotorSport, cost2u, and Dr. Macio.

On top of that, customers also connect with their favourite local influencers who published product reviews, tutorials and more over the campaign period with over 425K engagements registered across social media.

Food orders for the 12.12 Sale were dominated by local favorites, with Satay Ayam and Roti Canai standing out as users’ top choices in the Northern, Central, and Southern areas of ShopeeFood. Additionally, ShopeeFood saw a rise in the sale of vouchers as a result of users’ support for regional businesses. This included business champions like Sakura Donburi, Restoran Meng Kee, Universal Sambal, Tealive, ZUS Coffee, Ayam Gepuk Pak Gembus, Tiga Budak Gemok, Gigi Coffee, Thong Kee Cafe, Pop Meals, and Planet Nasi Kukus. McDonald’s and KFC continue to be popular mainstream brands.

“We are humbled to see the positive uplift amongst new local sellers because they have utilised our ecosystem well to outperform on e-commerce. In the last 12 months, Shopee drove inclusion by helping over 251,000 new local sellers digitalise their businesses. Over 140 of them recorded over half a million in sales within the same period of time. Moving into 2023, Shopee strives to continue enhancing the user experience for both sellers and buyers, by innovating to serve local needs, and make e-commerce accessible to everyone.”
