Malaysia’s 5G network has received global recognition at the renowned Glotel awards in London, which honour excellence and innovation in improving and redefining telecommunications.

The winners were disclosed at the global awards ceremony in London, and Ericsson and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) won the category for “Best 5G Innovation Vendor,” which honours the telecommunications companies that have formed the best new 5G technology or services that not only raise the bar for 5G but also make a significant contribution to the development of 5G as a whole.

According to David Hägerbro, the president of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, the winning entry was for “Multi-Operator Core Network and Dynamic Resource Mapping for the National Wholesale 5G Network.”

Ericsson’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) Slicing solution, Dynamic Radio Resource Mapping (DRP), is being employed for the first time on a commercial network by DNB.

Hägerbro said that the solution enables all six telecom companies that use the DNB network to provide tailored 5G services at the fastest possible data rates, giving users an unrestricted variety of choices while also enhancing the value of the 5G network as an innovation platform.

The DRP technology complements the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology, which is also utilised on DNB’s 5G network and allows operators to share radio resources effectively without compromising quality during peak hours while also providing diversity to their respective users. Active sharing will help enhance spectrum use and contribute to cheaper 5G service costs in our country, boosting adoption and digital transformation.

The Glotel award exemplifies Ericsson and DNB’s dedication to providing Malaysians with affordable world-class 5G networks, as well as world-class user experience and security that accelerates digital transformation and creates an attractive destination for foreign investment in operations and manufacturing.

The availability of 5G may not only improve users’ digital lifestyles in terms of gaming, streaming, healthcare, and education, but it can also offer enterprises confidence to extend their use, for example, in mining, logistics, and agriculture.

“We are looking forward to bringing the latest innovation and technology to Malaysia while achieving more milestones that will strengthen its competitiveness and accelerate the nation’s journey as it leapfrogs forward as a Digital Nation,”

— Hägerbro added.
