So first things first, 4G phones are still relevant when comes to a phone, yes I know that there is plenty of 5G phones on the plate there, even some comes with a very competitive pricing, but some might just want to take a deeper look at what OPPO has to offer, especially the A77s.
For stater lets not get confused with the 5G variant, which you can CLICK HERE to find out
Unboxing
The OPPO A77s came with the following
- OPPO A77s Phone
- Translucent Casing
- USB A to C Cable
- 33w SuperVOOC USB Charger
- User Manual/User Guide
- Pre-Applied Screen Protector
The Target Audience
The phone is basically targeting the youth and young workforce segment with limited budget for a phone, but seeking for a fully fledged 4G smartphone which does not fall under the low specs segment, but a phone that can actually produce some features for social media users, actively browsing with some readiness for fast gaming.
Design Aspect
If it does not look new to you, you would be right, it is pretty much based on the A77 5G looks but without the 5G in it. Instead of OPPO GLOW, you dont have that, you get the shimmery starry surface that changes colors when shined to a light source, but that only applies to the Sky Blue, while Starry Black you only get the sparkles without the color change under light source, which ever color you choose, it looks fine, flat and easy on the gripping with the block candybar form factor. IPX4 for Water resistance and IP5X for dust resistance means the phone can survive over light dusty area and some plan water splashes should not hurt the phone, wiping it with a cloth will do the job fine.
On the ports you will still get one USB C port for charging and data, and a 3.5mm audio jack which is definitely rare for a modern smartphone. The power button is also doubles as a fingerprint scanner which sits at the right position for unlocking and activating your phone.
Display & Audio
The A77s came with a 6.56inch LCD 720P, 90Hz adaptive refresh rate display with Panda Glass which is not unheard of, but it is glass that is shatter resistant if you dont hit it too hard, and for the price point, at least some form of higher quality glass protection is being used on this phone. Further down to the display quality, it is pretty good for an LCD screen with formidable color display, a brightness that can peaked up to 600nits and good screen to body ratio near towards 90%, which is some of the positive takes for the phone. Audio wise, you get a pair, a down firing and front speaker which works in tandem to bring you the balance stereo experience, loud enough over any room and details are good enough for the phone. The only lacking is 1 microphone instead of 2, which means no noise cancellation.
Camera
While the rear camera has no extra bells and whistles, it is still a good set of 50MP PDAF camera with a 2MP depth sensor that still be able to take reasonable quality pictures during day time and visible details and shadows that are still representable during evening and night time, in part this is also due to the software optimization that OPPO has tweak to fix images almost real time, however again, this is a set of camera that still produces images that is good enough for editing, uploading over to your favorite social media handles. The same can be said for the selfie camera, which supports portrait and wide angle shots with the 8MP sensor in front.
1080P video recording is still a standard for most social media and formats for viewing, and the A77s supports it, with no 60FPS support, results are mixed with minor grainy outcome during evening captures but during day time, no complains with very minor jitters over frames.
Performance and Benchmarking
Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, it is a good start for a mid range device, but you till can expand with an extra via RAM extension up to another 8GB and storage can be further extended with up to 1TB MicroSD card. With the combination mentioned above, this could be a phone that can very well go for on a few round of gaming and Instagram with work and messaging for almost the whole day with it’s 5000mAH battery in it, recharging it back to full should take about 70 minutes with the 33W SuperVOOC charger.
The phone’s OS is powered by Android 12 with ColorOS 12.1 which brings better storage optimization, RAM extension, close to a stock UI interface, split screen, Flexible windows, smart sidebar, battery standby optimization, game mode, themes, just to name a few.
And for those who are interested with the benchmarks, above are results which very well indicate this is not the best when comes to overall performance, but more than enough if you are not overly crazy on and practice on moderate multitasking apps opened and few MOBA games on this phone.

Verdict & Conclusion
The OPPO A77s is one of the clear attempt in bringing a work life balance to it’s potential youth buyers that a good looking phone stands in the affordable category with a reasonable features and specifications within a smartphone. While budget 5G phones are hitting at just a bit higher price point, it is still viable to just get a 4G smartphone at this point of writing as it is still delivering a reasonable data speeds with mixture of users very much rely on WiFi at home or office, but if you are craving for a 5G smartphone, a much dense high-res display, faster memory you may want to look at other models or brands which is up to entirely to the buyer to weight on what is outmost important.
