Introduction
ROG Strix Scope RX TKL Wireless Deluxe is a premium keyboard that offers tri-mode connectivity and was launched last August. It is a keyboard with a tenkeyless (TKL) design that is very suitable for gamers. Let’s see what they can offer with this premium keyboard.
What is inside the box?
It comes with the keyboard, a large wrist rest, a wired connectivity cable which is neatly tied up and a user manual.
Design
ROG Strix Scope RX TKL Wireless Deluxe is a keyboard made specifically for gaming. The tenkeyless design of this keyboard is very suitable for gaming and paired with a larger than usual left Ctrl key allows the gamer to hit the ‘crouch’ button easier in an FPS game session. This design of the keyboard also allows more portability thanks to its size if the user or gamer needs to go for competitions or for travelling. However, the tenkeyless design of this keyboard means that it does not come with a numpad which means it is not suitable for productivity use case scenarios.
Connectivity
You can connect this keyboard with a tri-mode connection namely Bluetooth (which you can connect and easily switch between the 3 devices), wireless where it uses 2.4 GHz RF and lastly wired. Surprisingly for the wireless and Bluetooth connections, the latency is quite low, so it is very suitable for FPS gaming and due to this feature of the keyboard, it provides a satisfying experience in playing games or for typing in general. The wireless mode also lasts up to 72 hours of usage with RGB lighting or 136 hours without the lighting as advertised by ASUS.
Switch
This keyboard utilised its mechanical switch which is the ROG RX Optical Mechanical Switch which is different from Romer-G and Cherry MX keys. However, this means that the switches are not hot-swappable and the keycaps are for RX switches only. There are 2 choices of switches which are red and blue.
The ROG RX switches are very stable and consistent when it is pressed. The switch that came with this keyboard is the RIG RX Blue which has a very satisfying click when pressed and is quite comfortable to use for longer periods of time. The key is also very stable and grounded in place as it has 4 corner latches to support the key when it is pressed. The operation force of 65gf gives the FPS gamer a smile when the key is pressed.
Wrist rest
The Wrist rest that the keyboard comes with is very supportive and comfortable so that gamers and users can use it without much fatigue when using the keyboard during a gaming marathon. The material is very soft and has a nice feel to it when touched. It can also be cleaned very easily as it doesn’t absorb any sweet that may come from the user’s hands or due to any spillage. It is also magnetic which sticks to the keyboard and it provides a sturdy feeling when using the keyboard.
Armoury Crate
The lighting and macros also can be customised using ASUS in-house app Armoury Crate to customise the keys based on the user’s needs. Armoury Crate is a very powerful application capable of customising your keyboard to your heart’s content. The Aura Sync enables you to customise and synchronise the lighting effects with other Aura Sync-enabled devices while the Aura Creator enables us to customise the lighting of each key by changing the colours and even using gradient effects.
The stealth key, which is set as default to F12 key, provides the functionality of instantly hiding all applications and mutes all audio which is very useful for certain circumstances that require instant privacy.
The Fn + Ins key also can switch the function key to the media key instantly and vice versa.
Build Quality
The keyboard has a very solid build and feels structurally well put together as the frame of the keyboard is made of durable aluminium alloy construction. You can expect it to last for a very, very long time and it can survive an occasional drop or accidents that may happen. Besides that, the ROG PBT double-shot keycaps and the switch design that has 4 supports also contribute to a solid feeling.
Conclusion
Overall ROG Strix Scope RX TKL Wireless Deluxe is a great keyboard for gamers that are looking for portability and add-ons to their ROG ecosystem. It works really well with other ROG devices and gives the user a fantastic range of customisation through its software which enables them to change it to their liking. The keyboard is very well made and has a solid and durable feeling while still keeping the aesthetics pleasing. However, the price of $169.99 or around RM 765 is the only point that one has to consider when wanting to purchase this keyboard as it is on the more expensive side. That being said, we do think that it is a great deal for the buck.
