PICO has announced the release of the PICO 4, a next-generation, all-in-one VR headset that aims to make VR accessible to everyone by combining comfort and performance.
The PICO 4 features a super light weight body, Pancake Optics, a 4K+ resolution display, and an intuitive user experience. It is powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon XR2 chipset which provides more vivid and immersive VR experience, ushering in the next generation of VR hardware design.
“We are delighted to announce the PICO 4, our best VR headset yet,” said Henry Zhou, President of PICO. “At PICO, we pride ourselves on offering immersive and interactive VR experiences, and PICO 4 introduces even more diverse content across gaming, fitness and video.”
Enjoy Greater Comfort
The PICO 4 is compact and lightweight, weighing only 295g without the strap, making it PICO’s lightest VR headset ever. The impressive lightness is achieved by using smaller and lighter lenses in the PICO 4’s Pancake Optics, which reduces the case thickness to just 35.8mm at its thinnest point.
The PICO 4 has adjustable straps and a cushion lining made of SuperSkin fabric, a unique material with effective wicking properties that keeps users cool and dry. The anti-slip PU leather at the back of the headset adds to the comfort and control.
It has a large battery that provides up to three hours of gameplay, as well as industry-leading fast-charge capabilities, TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification, and a counter-weight design that ensures comfort during extended play. The ergonomic design of the headset also allows for the use of a glasses spacer, which is included in the box, allowing users who wear glasses to fully immerse themselves in their VR worlds without sacrificing comfort or clarity.
More Entertainment Options
Through the PICO Store, users can access a diverse and inclusive library of content from gaming, fitness, video, and social categories. Additional titles are available via Steam VR.
With the growing popularity of fitness tracking, the PICO 4 has introduced the PICO Fitness program to help streamline fitness progress tracking. Through VR motion tracking, users can review historical VR gameplay data as well as their energy output. Furthermore, the PICO 4 can recommend exercise plans to users based on their objectives. Fitness content includes LesMills Body Combat, All-In-One Summer Sports VR, and Just Dance VR, which will be released in 2023 as part of an exclusive partnership with Ubisoft.
PICO 4 also provides a diverse gaming experience, with popular titles such as Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, Ultimechs, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution available. PICO 4 will also collaborate with Wave, the global leader in virtual entertainment, to provide fans with immersive, cutting-edge virtual live music experiences.
“The launch of the PICO 4 is an exciting and notable step forward in our efforts to connect players around the globe through immersive multiplayer content,” said Paul Brady, co-founder and President, Resolution Games. “With the help of PICO, we were able to make sure our biggest games, from the just launched competitive future sport Ultimechs to our award-winning co-op tabletop experience Demeo are available on PICO 4 from day one and through what’s sure to be a significantly growing market.”
More content is on the way in the fitness, gaming, video, and social realms. This includes the groundbreaking project PICO Worlds, which will be released in 2023 and will provide a more realistic physical interaction experience by implementing an avatar system that recognises over 80 dimensions, as well as exclusive documentaries in collaboration with Discovery Channel.
Innovative Performance Technology
The PICO 4 allows for high-precision tracking and mapping of the surrounding environment while maintaining a stylish appearance, thanks to four well-placed SLAM cameras around the thin frame of the HMD (head-mounted display). A powerful 16MP RGB camera with vivid colour is hidden beneath the HMD’s cover. The PICO 4 is powered by the premium-tier Snapdragon® XR2 platform, which enables cutting-edge display and graphics processing while delivering optimal performance and power consumption.
The PICO 4 also boasts unmatched visual quality with its 90Hz refresh rate, 4K+ screen, and 1,200 PPI. Paired with a 5,300mAh rear-mounted battery with support for the latest industry-standard Qualcomm Quick Charge QC 3.0, the PICO 4 is designed to allow users to relax and enjoy an uninterrupted journey into virtual worlds, safe in the knowledge that their VR headset will not let them down.
The PICO 4 controllers have a one-piece rotating arc column with cleverly placed infrared sensors. Considering design and structural strength, the controllers allow users to move their hands closer together with ease, with added protection provided by hit detection and spatial awareness. The PICO 4 controllers also support 6DoF, allowing users to move more freely within the virtual environment, and include a HyperSense broadband motor for more realistic haptic feedback.
PICO Accessories
A range of accessories are compatible with the PICO 4, including the PICO Fitness band to effectively monitor lower body movements, carry cases for easy transportation, and PC wireless dongle for stable wireless connection in any setting. Fully available by 2023, these accessories offer a more comprehensive and seamless VR experience for consumers however they choose to play.
