The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is the latest addition of the flagship TWS offering from HUAWEI that emphasizes on high quality audio experiences that priced below the premium level, but still targets those who loved their audio quality.

Design

HUAWEI’s design approach is still based on the previous version, the FreeBuds Pro, which still maintain the same oval shape on the Earbuds case, as well as the earbuds but the overall dimension and size has been slightly slimmed down to keep things compact yet elegant looking at the same time, still the solid appearance remains with the premium feel when holding the case or wearing the earbuds. There is a button on the right side of the casing just in case if you need to reset the Earbuds for pairing to another device and that’s about it.

Performance – Battery and Connectivity

The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 will last roughly about 5 Hours in my experience for a single charge with ANC ON, which is within expectations on most TWS with ANC today, and if you are just using it on a mix of music, gaming and calls, it could last slightly longer than that. You can at least recharge back from the charging case for at least 3 to 4 times and off you go on continuing your music or gaming, giving it an average of 22 hours of total usage time, otherwise turning off ANC will give you another extra 1 hour of battery life.

Connectivity wise, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is connected via Bluetooth 5.2 with AAC/SBC or LDAC codec support and it’s simple, just turn on the Bluetooth on your phone and scan, open up the charging case, take out the Earbuds and place it to your ears, and wait for it to be connected. It is simple to operate. The pair of earbuds will detect each other automatically in stereo mode. For certain non HUAWEI phones, you might need to navigate over to the device bluetooth menu settings to enable LDAC to enjoy the much immersive low latency with higher quality audio experience thanks to the 11 mm quad-magnet dynamic driver. A special feature known as Tip Fit Test will guide you to fit the buds properly to your ear and define the best audio frequency for your ears. If you need to switch to different equalizer mode, just access the HUHAWEI AI app and you are given pre-set 4 different EQ modes you can customise the EQ yourself. HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 also features soft squeeze over the earbuds over controls such as enabling ANC, answering calls, music control and so on. You can also refer to its additional controls or just use the App again to manually set it, giving it options for the user to control what user needs the most. While there is no a game mode, you still can experience low latency surround audio which competing TWS has as well. On top of that, testing over mic quality is excellent with 3 microphone for better voice delivery.

There is a very short window of delay when placing back the pair of earbuds to the casing and waiting for it to recharge, but this is to ensure that the re-connection was done right. Weight wise, each earbud weighs about 6.1 grams only, which is absolutely comfortable to wear with its pair of directional microphone providing clear call quality and with optimized solutions from Bluetooth 5.2 technologies.
