The brand was able to apply appropriate structures to the right areas based on its previous experience creating foldable phones, resulting in superior mechanical and electromagnetic performance. A streamlined hinge mechanism and cellular-shape screen support provide the ideal minimalist design.
Streamlined hinge mechanism: The weight of the hinge was reduced by replacing high-density hinge material with a lower-density material, as is customary with non-movable components. Furthermore, hinges have a large number of parts, therefore the folding mechanism must be reduced and the number of components in a hinge decreased. The HUAWEI Mate Xs 2 uses next-generation metal injection moulding (MIM) ultra-light high-strength steel for crucial elements of the hinge. At the same time, the material’s density is kept as low as possible. The number of critical pieces on the hinge has been reduced by 35% compared to the previous generation, allowing for an ultra-minimalist design.
Cellular-shape screen support: The HUAWEI Mate Xs 2 uses a cellular-shape screen support structure to reduce weight without sacrificing reliability.
3D Fiberglass process: HUAWEI innovatively applies the 3D Fiberglass process to the battery cover, producing textures with a thickness of less than 0.5 mm by means of hot pressing.
