A ‘Zen’ of dual screen touchscreen laptop
ASUS has been pioneering in many innovations for laptops that would say, some does really works for the most in certain segments for users that needed features that is neat and new towards the public. Remember few years back when they announced the ScreenPad features?. It amazes many including me that the recent times ASUS improved it further with more functionalities than ever.
Today we will be reviewing the Zenbook 14X OLED, one of the mid tier lineup from the Zenbook series that brings in lightweight laptops with modest specifications and functionalities.
Design
The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED design carries a similar design to the Vivobook series which has a mix of polycarbonate and aluminum chassis all around the body build of the laptop. With that said, it is just nice to carry at just lightweight 1.4KG. It has a very minimal flex indicating its steady durability when carrying outside and doing all the work you need with lifting it up opening the laptop display is easy. It still has the ergolift where when the display is lifted up, the body of the upper side is also lifted up giving a slight height up and dissipating heat the same time.
The keyboard uses a standard chiclet design with good amount of travel keys which I can get used to anytime over its comfort typing everyday with documents and posting updates over social media coupled with its white LED which I can still work even in slightly darker environments.
ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED comes in 2 colors, Lilac Mist & Pine Grey. Both of colors are well suited and well represented whether you are using it during travel, home or work.
Over to the trackpad, ASUS uses their signature ScreenPad which is a touchscreen panel that acts as a second screen and also you can tap and write with it’s handwriting app and also selecting shortcuts for your favorite apps. It supports Windows Precision Drivers which means that all Windows 10 and Windows 11 trackpad gestures and navigation is properly supported up to 3 fingers gesture support.
Ports and Charging
The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED comes supplied with the 100w USB C type charger that supplies charging from 10% to 100 % around 3 hours on average. Over on the right side of the laptop you will spot one MicroSD card slot, 2 USB C with thunderbolt port for data transfer and charging, a 3.5mm combo headphone jack and 1 HDMI port for extending to a second display. Over on the left side, there is 1 USB 3.0 port and that is pretty much it, which is a good amount of port available to be used.
Thermals and Heat
The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED does a decent job in the thermal department, hovering around 45 degree celsius average in a normal temperature room while working on documents with literally minimal noise over the fan heatsink giving it a pleasure working and playing game with the laptop. The only time when the fan is spinning real fast is when you are pushing the laptop on intensive processing, such as playing a few games over 30 minutes and beyond or running medium tasked editing, which will the fan wil quickly spin down within minutes once it goes idle.
Display
Over in the display department, the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED features an OLED 4K 14 inch Pantone Verified Touchscreen display with HDR, 90Hz refresh rate and comes equipped with Blue light filter but also take note that no stylus is included. Furthermore, looking at the display is not glaring and comfortable indoors and outdoors with deep blacks and high color accuracy, perfect for those who are using it for long hours for graphical editing, social posting, web browsing and multimedia use. The bezels are thin also, giving it a great viewing angle up to 180 degrees with good color reproduction. In my experience over minor photo editing and video streaming, all is going well within expectations over the colors.
Benchmarks & Scores
The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED features the Intel 11th Generation Core i7-1165G7 4 Core processor and 8 Threads with Nvidia GeForce MX450 GPU, 16GB system RAM and 512GB of NVME SSD. Below are the benchmark results.
During benchmark we observed that the temperature rose up to about 78 degree celsius which is quite hot for an Intel Based Laptop but it dissipates quite fast after that to its idle temperatures after 6 minutes . Overall such scores are quite satisfactory since this is a multimedia and work laptop.
Performance
We tested 3 games on this laptop and below are the best configurations.
GAME | SETTINGS | AVERAGE FPS |
DOTA 2 | 1080P, NORMAL, VSYNC OFF | 87FPS |
MINECRAFT WINDOWS 10 | 1080P, NORMAL, VSYNC OFF | 86FPS |
GENSHIN IMPACT | 900P LOW, VSYNC OFF | 57FPS |
The Laptop GPU is equipped with Nvidia GeForce MX450 GPU with an integrated Intel graphics, the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED can run a few games at Low mixed with Medium settings which makes it suitable over casual category users that still plays quick esports title or even playing Genshin Impact over it’s standard domain hunting with my friends around Asia maintaining about 57 FPS average. Games like DOTA 2, Fortnite should not be an issue as well, just keep the graphical settings to medium or low with resolutions between 720P to 1080P, you will be enjoying your game play just fine.
Over general performance, from Microsoft Office to Video streaming, even some medium editing with Adobe Photoshop will work well with it.
