Collaboration to expand the Taobao Affiliate Programme and reward top creators with an exclusive visit to Alibaba headquarters in Hangzhou

Taobao Malaysia, part of the Alibaba Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Good Foodie Media Sdn. Bhd. and W Talent Academy Sdn. Bhd. to strengthen its creator-commerce ecosystem. The partnership aims to empower more Malaysian content creators through the Taobao Affiliate Programme, driving cross-border e-commerce growth through content marketing and short-form video.

This collaboration reflects Taobao Malaysia’s commitment to investing in the local creator economy, creating new income opportunities for both professional influencers and everyday users while enhancing discovery through livestreaming and social content.

Driving Creator-Commerce Growth in Malaysia

As one of Taobao’s key markets in Southeast Asia, Malaysia continues to see rising interest in value-driven international products. With social commerce and livestreaming shaping purchase decisions, the local digital commerce sector is expected to grow at a 14.32% CAGR from 2025 to 2033.

“The creator economy presents tremendous opportunities in Malaysia,” said Jess Lew, Country Head of Taobao Malaysia. “Through the Taobao Affiliate Programme, we enable creators — from micro-influencers to everyday shoppers — to earn through content while helping consumers shop with confidence.”

Together with Foodie Media and W Talent, Taobao Malaysia plans to recruit over 200 local creators to produce engaging content, interactive livestreams, and authentic product storytelling across trending categories such as apparel, home & living, sports, toys, and furniture.

Supporting and Training Local Creators

Nicholas Lim Pinn Yang, CEO of Foodie Media, said: “This partnership opens the door for more creators to participate in Taobao’s affiliate ecosystem and earn sustainably. Foodie Media will provide participants with content guidance and market insights to help them succeed.”

Lim Yeong Shen, Director of W Talent, added: “Our goal is to equip creators with the skills, tools, and confidence to thrive in livestreaming and social content creation — turning creativity into opportunity.”

Earnings and Incentives

The Taobao Affiliate Programme offers a low-entry pathway for anyone to start earning through content sharing, with:

  • Commissions up to 30% per product
  • Referral bonuses up to RM26 per new user
  • Extra incentives during major campaigns such as 11.11, 12.12, and Mid-Year Sales

Creators can register their interest by emailing partnership@foodie.my to be onboarded by Foodie Media. Participants will gain access to content mentorship, livestream studio facilities, and creator support — with top performers standing a chance to visit Alibaba Group’s headquarters in Hangzhou for an exclusive creator exchange experience.
